Branch Operations Specialist
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Branch Operations Specialist is responsible for monitoring adherence to credit union policies, procedures, and the comprehensive risk management program while proactively identifying and addressing risks that could impact the organization’s reputation, security, safety, member experience, or financial success. The Branch Operations Specialist serves as a subject matter expert for retail team members, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure consistent application of policies, procedures or regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and assess retail adherence to operational policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and the credit union’s risk management framework through reviews, observations, and operational audits
- Identify operational, compliance, fraud, and member experience risks, documenting findings, and partnering with retail leadership to report findings and develop strategies that will ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert for retail operational policies, procedures, controls, and regulatory requirements, providing guidance, consultation, and support to retail leaders and team members
- Coach, mentor, and develop retail team members through observations, feedback, and targeted training to strengthen operational competencies and accuracy, policy adherence, risk awareness, and member service effectiveness
- Serve as a liaison between Learning and Development, retail leadership, and frontline team members to communicate operational updates, regulatory changes, risk trends, procedural enhancements, and strategic initiatives
- Partner with retail leadership to strengthen operational performance, promote accountability, and ensure consistent execution of operational standards and compliance expectations
- Design and maintain operational resources and process documentation that promote consistent execution, compliance, and long-term behavioral sustainability
- Promote a culture of accountability, compliance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement while modeling GECU’s values
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Human Resources, Finance or related field preferred.
- At least five years of branch leadership experience
- Experience working with credit unions or within banking industry highly preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively present information, lead discussions, and provide coaching and feedback to team members at all levels
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, operational risk management principles, fraud prevention practices, and compliance standards impacting retail operations
- Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills with the ability to influence performance and drive accountability
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify operational risks, root causes, process gaps, and opportunities for improvement
- Knowledge of retail operations, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking abilities in a fast-paced environment
- Professional demeanor with the ability to build effective, positive working relationships and lead by example
- Must have own means of transportation as this position requires frequent travel to branch locations for coaching, audits, reviews, and meetings
