G&C Foods is currently looking for a professional and dynamic QA Technician I located in our Syracuse, NY.  

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 6:30 PM

Reports to: Director of NE Warehousing

Managers Others: No    

Location: Syracuse, NY (On-Site)

Travel: 5% Annually

Job Summary:

The QA Tech I main function is to perform inspections to ensure food safety and quality compliance across all operational areas at G&C Foods.

Essential Functions:

  • Continual inspection of all operational areas for cGMP compliance. 
  • Verifies that tasks and paperwork related to the SQF system are being completed; gathers, reviews and files quality and food safety records, as applicable.
  • Supports site Food Safety program, HACCP plans and CCPs. 
  • Places nonconforming product on hold; provides guidance for products to be reworked; and releases product.
  • Provides confirmatory checks of all Critical Control Points (CCPs).
  • Performs inspections with production / warehouse and ensures that all deficiencies are rectified before operation commences, as needed.
  • Ability to handle all types of raw/unpackaged food products that may contain food allergens as described in the work environment section of this job description. 
  • Gathers production samples and organizes them for easy retrieval for any investigations.
  • Verifies ATP testing swabbing to verify the effectiveness of cleaning before production begins.
  • Performs thermometer calibrations weekly, or as needed.
  • Performs incoming inspections on products used in the production areas; approves or reject shipments; generates supplier corrective actions if rejected.
  • Supports Production and Warehouse staff in the application and/or monitoring of the SQF rules and controls.
  • Serves as a resource to Production and Operations regarding food safety and quality issues.   
  • Generates and informs the immediate supervisor of all non-conformities to the SQF rules; accepts corrective and preventive actions; and closes nonconformances.  
  • Reviews, organizes and files documents in a timely manner.
  • Assists with regulatory and 3rd party audits, as needed. 
  • Serves as liaison from QA Manager to Production and Operations personnel.
  • Escalates any issues that can’t be resolved to the QA Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.  

Minimum Position Qualifications/Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have the ability to read, write legibly and understand simple verbal & written instructions.
  • Must have basic computer knowledge and basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Food manufacturing or distribution experience.
  • HACCP certified or the ability to become HACCP certified.
