Overview

Position Summary

The Director of Philanthropy & Planned Giving provides leadership in securing philanthropic support for the ministry’s mission. This role encompasses strategic planning, administration, and direction to achieve goals and complete initiatives. The Director of Philanthropy & Planned Giving offers visionary philanthropic leadership to all sites within Franciscan Ministries and ensures stewardship to all stakeholders. 

Essential Functions, Key Duties, & Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and track prospective donors, and execute a comprehensive planned giving program to increase donor numbers and contributions.
  • Collaborate with the CEO to develop short and long-term goals and action plans.
  • Provide support and training to the management team and ensure proper acceptance and completion of planned gifts.
  • Support and lead associates to create and lead robust fundraising programs at the community level.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with Executive Directors, associates, and donors.
  • Work directly with gift planners and donors to explore giving strategies and maintain a prospect portfolio.
  • Make presentations at local organizations and attend relevant events to increase publicity.
  • Develop metrics to aid in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting planned gifts, and monitor and analyze these metrics.
  • Create a development calendar and publish newsletters to inform donors about programs.
  • Research potential grants, obtain End of Life requests, and review legal documents.
  • Remain current on development and fundraising strategies through participation in seminars, workshops, and conferences.
  • Develop policies for long-term pledges, estate gift commitments, and donor recognition.
  • Provide guidance on the acceptance and management of complex gifts.
  • Provide oversight, management, and leadership for direct reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures and any updates.

Position Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred

Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver’s License required

Experience: 5+ years of leadership and/or fundraising experience in a non-profit or other community-based organization

Skills & Abilities:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship building, and public speaking skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, initiative, and ability to work independently.
  • Working understanding of finance-related performance standards.

Travel: Moderate travel to communities and special events as needed
