Jeppesen Foreflight is one of the largest software development companies in Gothenburg. We develop and implement innovative resource management and optimization solutions for the world’s leading airlines. We are dedicated to continuous improvement and delivering more value to our clients.

About the Role

Jeppesen ForeFlight is redefining the future of aviation technology — equipping pilots, operators, and decision-makers with the software tools to forge bold new digital paths that push past the expected. We stand with those who dream bigger, fly farther, and seek to explore the next frontier in the cockpit and operations center.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical General Ledger Accountant to support our German entity's month-end close process, statutory reporting, and reconciliations. In this role, you will prepare and enter accruals, perform account reconciliations, and ensure our books are maintained in compliance with German GAAP (HGB) as well as our internal US GAAP reporting requirements. You will work closely with our outsourced accounting partners, local tax advisors, and the wider Finance team to keep our German entity audit-ready and compliant.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical accounting skills, fluency in German language and regulatory requirements, and comfort operating in a fast-paced, scaling environment.

Key Responsibilities

Month-End Close

  • Prepare and post month-end journal entries, including accruals, revenue entries, and expense adjustments.
  • Perform calculations to determine accrual amounts based on historical activity, contracts, and supporting documentation.
  • Support variance analysis and provide clear explanations for month-end financial results.
  • Ensure close activities for the German entity are performed in parallel under both US GAAP and German GAAP (HGB) principles.

Reconciliation & Reporting

  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned German entity accounts.
  • Reconcile intercompany and vendor transactions to the general ledger, resolving variances in partnership with local and global teams.
  • Maintain documentation that meets German statutory recordkeeping standards and is audit-ready at all times.

German Statutory Compliance

  • Support preparation of statutory financial statements (Jahresabschluss) in accordance with the German Commercial Code (Handelsgesetzbuch/HGB).
  • Assist with German statutory audit (Wirtschaftsprüfung) requests, liaising directly with the appointed Wirtschaftsprüfer (statutory auditor).
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors (Steuerberater) on VAT filings, trade tax, and corporate income tax matters as needed.
  • Monitor changes in German accounting, tax, and labor law that may affect financial reporting and flag implications to management.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Serve as the internal point of contact for questions related to the German entity's ledger, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Revenue Operations, and outsourced accounting partners to ensure alignment on revenue, expenses, and reporting.
  • Translate and explain German-language source documents, correspondence, and regulatory guidance for the broader Finance team as needed.

Ad Hoc Support

  • Assist the Senior General Ledger Accountant with reporting, financial analysis, and special projects.
  • Support efforts to improve processes, enhance reporting efficiency, and strengthen internal controls.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of accounting experience, ideally in general ledger, revenue accounting, or financial operations.
  • Fluency in German and English, spoken and written, sufficient to manage statutory correspondence and audit interactions.
  • Working knowledge of German GAAP (HGB) and how it differs from US GAAP.
  • Familiarity with German statutory audit requirements and the annual Jahresabschluss process.
  • General understanding of German commercial and tax law as it relates to corporate accounting (e.g., VAT/Umsatzsteuer, trade tax/Gewerbesteuer).
  • Strong understanding of accrual accounting, reconciliations, and close processes.
  • Proficient in Excel and able to work with large data sets.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines.

Preferred

  • Direct experience working with a German Wirtschaftsprüfer or Steuerberater.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, NetSuite, SAP).
  • Background in SaaS, technology, or subscription-based revenue models.
  • Experience working with outsourced accounting partners.

You'll Thrive Here If You...

  • Are a "go-getter" and can take initiative on a project without explicit direction or instructions.
  • Want to understand the why behind the way something is done and aren't afraid to make changes when you see a better way.
  • Are motivated to carry projects through to completion and don't get derailed by small obstacles.
  • Can clearly articulate accounting concepts across languages and cultures, bridging German statutory requirements and global reporting standards.
  • Are a team player who can work well with others in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.
  • Can manage competing priorities while delivering accurate and timely information to stakeholders.
