About this role
We are looking for a Principal Analog/Mixed Signal Engineer with 6+ years of experience to lead the design of next-generation thermodynamic computing chips. Extropic is building a fundamentally new compute paradigm that leverages thermal noise in CMOS to perform probabilistic sampling — with potential 10, 000x power savings over traditional approaches. You'll join a ~30-person team that just taped out their third chip (Z1) and is now defining the architecture for three upcoming chips. This is a ground-floor opportunity to own major pieces of chip design at a company poised to reshape AI acceleration and edge computing.
What will you be doing?
Leading the design of analog and mixed-signal blocks (ADCs, PLLs, bandgaps, regulators, high-speed serializers/deserializers, oscillators, and dividers) for upcoming chip tape-outs
Owning large chunks of chip architecture and potentially serving as design lead for one of three planned chips
Performing hands-on layout work as well as design verification (DRC, ERC, LVS) in a startup environment where everyone gets their hands dirty
Collaborating across IC, systems, physics, and algorithms teams to translate probabilistic computing concepts into silicon implementations
Contributing to lab testing and validation of fabricated chips using signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes
