About this role

Hours of Work: Sun. - Tues. & Thurs. 9a-5p, and Wed. 11a-7p (75 hours biweekly) 

The Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Implementing recreation and leisure activities based on client preferences that consider a resident’s strengths, abilities, and interests while supporting residents to become involved.
  • Gathering feedback from residents, communicating required information to the Manager/ Supervisor, charting on all clients attending the program, and evaluation of programs.
  • Ensuring recreation areas are clean, safe, and properly maintained in keeping with health, fire, and safety codes. Clean recreation equipment after every program they are used in.
  • Monitoring equipment for wear and informing Therapist when replacement is required. Making shopping lists for Therapist to replace supplies.
  • Creating program plans for new programs implemented in facility. Completing monthly activity calendars as a recreation team.
  • Getting to know the clients in your program
  • DAL: get to know the clients within the site by:
  • Conduct Life Histories with clients new or old to the facility
  • Review Care Plans and recreation assessment
  • Visit with Clients
  • Talk with the Recreation Therapist, Recreation team members, and Nursing staff on the floor.
  • Residential: get to know the clients within the homes and/or program by:
  • Conducting Life Histories
  • Reviewing Care Plans
  • Visit with Clients
  • Talk with house staff, and RC
  • Create community linking opportunities with organizations or services for Clients to participate in that match their interests and abilities. Assist when and where needed.
  • Completing documentation in an accurate and professional manner.
  • Reporting on resident’s participation and response to recreation activities monthly: Progress notes, charting and daily stats through tracking methods.
  • Attending and participating in resident meetings, team meetings, in-service training, and staff development sessions as required.
  • Promoting the importance of Therapeutic Recreation to other departmental teams; collaborating with other professionals within the site as required.
  • Be available and a resource for team members to ask for program ideas to do with clients, when recreation is not offered (not on the floor or in the Group Home).
  • Supporting residents to become involved in the community where appropriate and under the direction of the Manager and Recreational Therapist. Networking with various agencies and community programs as required and appropriate.
  • Seeking out and pursuing educational opportunities.
  • Ensuring that resident’s confidentiality, dignity, and autonomy are respected and upheld.
  • Implementing programs with clients on a 1 on1, and group basis.

Requirements:

  •  Diploma or certificate in recreation/leisure studies or related health field would be desirable.
  •  Certification in First Aid & CPR Level C.
  •  Satisfactory criminal record check.
  •  At least 3 years' experience working within the Human Service Field
  • Understanding and Experience working with Mental Health is an asset
