Iroquois Job Corps Center is seeking dependable, motivated individuals to join our Safety & Security Department.
This is an excellent opportunity for college students, recent graduates, or individuals interested in beginning a career in criminal justice, security, corrections, law enforcement, (also retired law enforcement) or public safety.
As a Security Officer, you will gain practical, real-world experience while helping maintain the safety and security of our students, employees, facilities, and property. The position is responsible for the safety and security of students, staff, and Center facilities.
What You'll Do & Gain Experience In
Oversees Safety & Security team members during assigned rounds and daily activities to ensure proper procedures are followed and compliance with Center safety and security policies is maintained.
· Conduct campus and building patrols
· Identify and respond to safety hazards, suspicious activity, and unusual conditions
· Assist with maintaining a safe and secure environment for students and staff
· Respond to incidents and disturbances
· Receive complaints and assist with preliminary investigations
· Develop conflict-resolution, mediation, and de-escalation skills
· Perform building security and safety checks
· Help protect Center buildings and property
· Assist with parking and traffic control
· Enforce Center rules, policies, and procedures
· Document incidents and communicate professionally with staff and students
· Work with a diverse population of young adults.
· May transport students to and from approved activities, appointments, events, or other locations as needed
· Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Department Manager, as needed.
These responsibilities are based on the position's current duties and competencies, including patrol, preliminary investigations, physical security, traffic control, mediation, problem-solving, and working with students.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED required
· Driver’s License required
· Criminal Justice students and recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply
· Six months of security or related experience is preferred; however, candidates seeking an opportunity to gain experience in the field are encouraged to apply
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
· Ability to remain professional and use good judgment during challenging situations
· Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
· Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
· Ability to meet additional position requirements and obtain required certifications
