Equipment Unjammer – Commercial Laundry

Position Summary

Responsible for safely identifying and clearing routine equipment jams and maintaining proper linen flow throughout the production area. Equipment may include conveyors, feeders, folders, ironers, dryers, and other laundry-processing equipment.

Essential Duties

• Monitor equipment for jams, backups, and misfeeds.
• Safely clear routine jams using approved procedures.
• Follow machine-stop, emergency-stop, guarding, and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Never reach into, climb into, or bypass guards on operating equipment.
• Notify supervision or Maintenance when a jam cannot be safely cleared.
• Assist operators with maintaining proper linen flow and preventing recurring jams.
• Keep work areas, aisles, and equipment areas clean and unobstructed.
• Follow all safety, PPE, quality, and production procedures.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, operators, and Maintenance.
• Perform other production-support duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Ability to safely work around industrial machinery.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Good communication, teamwork, and situational awareness.
• Dependable attendance and ability to respond quickly to production needs.
• Previous industrial or commercial laundry experience preferred but not required.
• Equipment-specific safety training required before independently clearing jams.

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Bend, reach, stoop, squat, and move around equipment.
• Handle, push, pull, and lift linen within company weight limits.
• Work in warm, humid, noisy, and fast-paced areas.
• Wear required PPE.

Safety

Safety is an essential function of this position. Employees must recognize when a jam can be safely cleared and when Maintenance or supervision is required. Employees must never bypass machine guards or place hands, tools, or other objects into moving equipment.
