Job Summary
The Senior Project Controls Analyst assists the project management teams by developing, monitoring and updating project plans, schedules, and estimates, supporting the project managers via file organization, note taking, and project closure tasks, and applying their project controls experience in assisting with the development and improvement of standards, processes, procedures, guidelines and templates.
Key Accountabilities
- Support project team and estimating/scheduling personnel efforts toward the development of the project plan and translating the project plan into the project estimate/schedule.
- Develop detailed schedules in Microsoft Project using critical path method techniques.
- Guide functional discipline leads through project plan and schedule development.
- Ensure integrity of schedules by maintaining proper schedule logic, enterprise coding, accurate status reporting.
- Develop and provide analysis of project estimates or schedules, including, as applicable, software implementation, time impact and delay analysis, and review of periodic schedule updates.
- Develop professional outward-facing schedule reports for leadership and customers.
- Lead in-person, quick turnaround development sessions for critical scheduling needs.
- Analyze the effects to the critical path activities; identify changes to the project that affect the schedule and develop the recovery schedules and alternate courses of action.
- Actively participate in project meetings, assisting project manager in note taking and document controls tasks as needed.
- Participate in monthly accruals process utilizing schedule progress data and working with project managers to ensure cost assignments are appropriately applied.
- Develop and record project historical estimate/schedule information and lessons learned.
- Build the infrastructure for other Project Control Specialists and support project manager tasks as needed.
- Mentor and support lower-level Project Controls staff.
- Lead in-person training and mentoring sessions.
- Assignments are received in the form of results expected, within operating policies and procedures. Incumbent has the discretion to select from alternative approaches; decisions may involve changes to ‘normal’ work processes.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- 6 years of Project Controls (cost and/or schedule) experience.
- Bachelor's degree in technical discipline or business.
- Experience within the oil or gas industries (or related industry) .
- Strong understanding of engineering, procurement, and construction processes.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Other Qualifications
- Possess & maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be completely autonomous in Project Controls activities and able to mentor lower-level Project Controls professionals.
- Understanding of compression and pipeline terminology strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of financial & economic analysis, project & risk management.
- Navigational skills in project cost systems.
- Understanding of chart of accounts or cost breakdown systems and alignment with project schedule tasks.
- Strong knowledge of critical path method (CPM) scheduling, preferably with Microsoft Project, with the ability to develop task logic into project schedules with limited direction.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to drive customization of the architecture of existing Project Management estimating and reporting software/tools.
- Strong analytical & problem-solving skills with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
- Ability to apply project planning & implementation and/or continuous improvement principles to affect tangible, positive outcomes.
- Ability to apply methods and techniques, standards, processes, procedures, guidelines and templates, to efficiently manage, develop, and control project estimates/schedules.
- Ability to develop/coordinate cross-functional work groups and projects, yielding optimal outcomes.
- Promotes an atmosphere conducive to the open exchange of new ideas, and alternatives to orthodox approaches.
- Ability to work in a matrixed structure with shifting priorities, supporting multiple stakeholders and ability to embrace new and evolving responsibilities.
