The Scientist/Planner works under the direction of senior staff to complete tasks and projects. The work requires 40 hours per week. Salary range from 26-35 per hour depending on experience.

Essential Duties
- Work at the direction of Project Managers and Lead Planners/Scientists/Permitters
- Assist Senior staff in projects including but not limited to: hazard mitigation planning; protected species observing/marine construction support; public involvement projects; proposal development; work with others to write and produce newsletters and information materials; develop presentations for public forums; create and maintain mailing list and comment databases
- Support Project Managers with researching existing scientific and engineering reports and studies and interviewing rural Alaska residents regarding various issues
- Assist as needed with various tasks
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Staff must be self-directed and motivated, and will rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and objectives with oversight
- Will gain working knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures and be proficient in working with environmental and planning documents and regulations
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills required
- Strong computer skills
- GIS experience preferred
- Protected species observing experience preferred
Minimum Qualifications
- BS/BA or in an undergraduate program in Emergency Management, Safety, Environmental/Community Planning, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or related field.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug-test
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Must be able to work in our office in Anchorage
