Senior Civil & Structural Engineer - Nuclear

Following a number of project and long term framework wins in the Nuclear industry, including Urenco HALEUF, Urenco PDP, Sellafield IDP and Trawsfynydd Height Reduction, we are seeking a Senior Civil and Structural Engineer to support the delivery of these challenging projects for our clients at all stages of the nuclear fuel cycle. 

This is an exciting and challenging role within CEL to join our growing team of 150+ Civil & Structural Engineers and Designers. Our department covers a range of projects from Concept Studies through to Detailed Design provide a variety of interesting work. Industries can range across Water, Transport and Energy including Green Energy, Nuclear and Oil and Gas.

Working with minimal supervision or guidance, the fundamental requirement of this role is to work with our existing design team including carrying out feasibility studies, reference designs, detailed designs, and preparing reports and technical specifications and proposals for key local client in the Northwest.

Responsibilities

Working with minimal supervision or guidance, the fundamental requirement of this role is to work with our existing design team including carrying out feasibility studies, reference designs, detailed designs, and preparing reports and technical specifications and proposals for key local and regional clients. 

You will:

• Take responsibility for leading small projects and sub tasks from a technical perspective
• Prepare preliminary and detailed design analysis, calculations, specifications and related documentation for civil and structural works
• Communicate designs effectively to the BIM teams
• Communicate effectively with other disciplines and construction teams
• Communicate confidently and authoritatively with clients
• Challenge and deliver value engineering solutions
• Support and guide more junior team members

You will be based in Manchester 2-3 days with regular visits to site, near to Chester.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience 

Essential 

• Proven UK experience within the nuclear industry.

• Good knowledge of UK design working practices and installation requirements of the discipline.

• Awareness of risk identification, quantification, management and of HSE requirements

• Eligibility to obtain Security Clearance, UK National or minimum of 5 years UK Residency

Desirable

• C&S elements of pumped systems, such as fire and potable water.

• Knowledge of Urenco standards and processes

• Experience with new and historic structures, including optioneering assessments. 

• Experience in leading small teams and supporting more junior engineers.

• Knowledge and experience of common forms of contracts

• Project Management experience

• Requirements Management experience

Qualifications

Essential 

• Minimum BEng Civil or Structural Engineering

• Chartership or Incorporated with ICE or IStructE

• Ability to obtain Security Clearance

Desirable

• Nuclear Industry recognised training and qualifications

• Currently holding Security Clearance

• CSCS or CCNSG
