Junior Quantity Surveyor

We are seeking to recruit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our client’s supply chain team, driving commercial efficiencies and delivering value. The role ensures that all commercial aspects are carried out in accordance with the contract, company policies and procedures, and to the satisfaction of the customer and/or contract leader. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in quantity surveying, working alongside experienced commercial professionals in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Support the preparation of Invitation to Tenders (ITTs) and assist with the analysis of tender returns. 

• Assist in benchmarking contractor and supplier submissions to ensure value for money. 

• Support the review and administration of contract terms and conditions, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements. 

• Assist in evaluating framework agreements and identifying opportunities for commercial improvement and efficiencies. 

• Review variations and cost proposals under the guidance of senior commercial team members. 

• Support value engineering initiatives aimed at delivering cost-effective solutions. 

• Work closely with the client's supply chain team, project teams and contractors to support procurement and commercial objectives.

• Assist in monitoring contract performance and identifying potential commercial risks or issues. 

• Ensure commercial records, notifications and contract documentation are maintained in accordance with contract requirements and company procedures. 

• Provide support in the preparation of reports, cost analyses and commercial documentation. 

• Develop an understanding of different forms of construction contracts and their practical application. 

• Maintain awareness of relevant health and safety requirements and their commercial implications. 

• Contribute positively as a member of an integrated project and commercial team.

   

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential

• Excellent numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills. 

• Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. 

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. 

• A practical and methodical approach to work with strong attention to detail. 

• Willingness to learn and develop commercial, contractual and procurement knowledge. 

• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

   

Desirable

• Relevant commercial experience within the construction, infrastructure, or engineering sections, typically gained over 1 to 3 years through a junior commercial role, placement year, internship, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience.

• A proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving.

• Understanding of construction contracts and project management systems.

Qualifications

Essential

• Holds an RICS/CICES accredited degree, or enrolled on an accredited part-time postgraduate degree with relevant experience.

Desirable

• Working towards Professional Membership of either RICS or CICES

• Interest in pursuing a professional qualification and career development within Quantity Surveying.
