MARINE MECHANIC – Newport News VA
Overview:
Wanchese Fish Company, Inc., a large east coast seafood company has an opening for a Marine Mechanic at its shore base facility in Newport News VA. Guaranteed 40 hours a week, good benefits, and does require the person to be on call and work some overtime. This job requires working on fishing vessels and working in the environment at times.
Responsibilities:
- Must be able to work independently
- Provide preventive maintenance on all machinery to ensure that the vessel achieves maximum performance
- Provide emergency maintenance requirements as needed
- Provide mechanical and electrical repairs
- Provide refrigeration repairs
- May have to travel to North Carolina or New Bedford MA at times
Qualifications:
- Person should have at least 10 years minimum work experience in the marine mechanic’s field.
- Be familiar with: Caterpillar, John Deere generator systems, Caterpillar 398, 399, 3412, 3508 series main diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and 12-24volt systems.
- Experience with systems including propulsion, fuel systems, lubrication systems, seawater and fresh water systems, heating and ventilating and air conditioning systems
- Experience working on commercial fishing vessels
