About this role

The purpose of this position is to assist with plan approval process and permits for the Development Services Department as well as perform administrative duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares information from site plans submitted for planning and zoning approval and performs inspections on
  • construction projects.
  • Meets with developers, engineers, and surveyors to describe or review procedures and promote new development.
  • Provides customers with information on the planning and zoning approval process.
  • Researches ordinances, regulations, and processes and recommends improvements.
  • Provides administrative support by maintaining department schedules, coordinating meetings and agendas, preparing reports, researching information, and processing a variety of permits and certificates.
  • Assigns case numbers to applications and enters customer requests for plan approval into database.

 

Supplemental Functions:

  •  Performs other similar duties as required.

Job Specifications and Qualifications:

 Knowledge:

  • Basic civil engineering principles;
  • Applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations;
  • Construction principles;
  • Mathematical concepts;
  • Customer service principles;
  • Modern office equipment and procedures.

Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.

PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, sitting, handling, vision, hearing, talking.
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly AND/OR walking or standing to a significant degree. 
  • Incumbents may be subject to extreme temperature.
