The company automates urban planning so cities can build cheaper and faster, reducing reliance on repetitive and costly consultant tasks. Founders Ryan Johnston (co-founder and CTO) and Varun Tandon (co-founder and CEO) bring deep technical expertise—Johnston from chip design synthesis CAD at Apple and a Stanford Electrical Engineering background, and Tandon from leading applied ML at Microsoft with work on diffusion models and LLMs for flagship Office products, plus Stanford Computer Science degrees. In the United States, cities often rely heavily on consulting firms for routine planning tasks that are repetitive, costly, and algorithmic in nature, which Waypoint Transit aims to address.
