About this role

Staff Pediatrician — Washington Pediatrics, PA | Washington, NC
Full-Time · Onsite · HPSA-Designated · Partnership Track Available

"I started at Washington Pediatrics in 1990, joining two other pediatricians. Through the years we have grown the practice to six providers, all committed to taking care of the neediest of families. We treat each of our families like they were our own. One of the greatest joys of practicing for 35 years is taking care of the children of my former patients. That trust and connectivity would be difficult in many areas — it is vital to our success."
— Dr. Deborah Ainsworth, MD, Owner & President, Washington Pediatrics

Why this role?
If you're finishing residency and picturing a career where you're just another name on a productivity spreadsheet, this isn't that. From day one, you'll build the kind of continuity of care that's rare to find right out of training — watching your own patients grow up, with parents who know your name. There's no hospital rounding, no RVU treadmill, and a genuine partnership track after Year 1 if you're looking to put down roots rather than rotate through another job in three years.

Why this practice?
Washington Pediatrics has been independently owned and physician-led since 1955 — nearly 70 years of doing it their own way, without a health system dictating workflow or patient care decisions. Provider tenure here runs 7 to 35 years, which tells you people don't leave once they arrive. You'll have an embedded behavioral health psychologist and therapist, point-of-care labs, and a full vaccine program already in place — the infrastructure of a well-run practice, with the autonomy of one that's still physician-owned.

Why now?
New graduates are explicitly welcome here, and the practice is actively building toward its next generation of ownership. This is a rural, HPSA-designated, medically underserved community — meaning your work has real, immediate impact, and you're eligible for NC Loan Repayment Program and NC Rural Health Program support on top of relocation assistance and a housing stipend. If you're early in your career and want a place where the learning curve is steep but the support is real — mentorship from providers who've been here decades, not months — this is worth a conversation.

What you'll do:

  • Provide comprehensive pediatric care from birth through adolescence
  • Build long-term relationships with patients and families across generations
  • Collaborate with embedded behavioral health team members on whole-child care
  • Serve as a pediatric advocate in a rural, underserved region
  • Grow toward partnership as your career develops

What makes you a fit:

  • MD or DO, Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatrics
  • Eligible for NC medical licensure
  • New graduates welcome — experienced physicians welcome too
  • Comfortable in a high-autonomy, independent practice environment
  • Genuine interest in community-centered, relationship-driven pediatric care

What you'll get:

  • Relocation assistance and housing stipend
  • Loan repayment eligibility (NC LRP + Rural Health Program)
  • Medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance
  • Employer-paid malpractice coverage
  • 401(k), $2,500/year CME allowance + CME leave
  • No non-compete

Washington Pediatrics, PA is an equal opportunity employer.
