Activities Director

Are you a passionate, creative, and resident-focused leader looking to make a meaningful impact every day? We are seeking an experienced Activities Director to lead our comprehensive Activity Department. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, organizing, and coordinating engaging activity programs that promote the physical, emotional, social, cultural, and cognitive well-being of our residents.
The ideal candidate is a compassionate professional with strong leadership skills, experience in long-term care or skilled nursing, and a commitment to delivering person-centered programming that enhances residents' quality of life.
What You'll Do
Develop, organize, and coordinate a comprehensive activity program that meets the interests and needs of residents seven days per week, across multiple shifts, including holidays and community outings.
Lead, supervise, schedule, train, and support activity staff and volunteers to ensure high-quality programming and resident engagement.
Conduct resident activity assessments and develop individualized, person-centered care plans that reflect each resident's physical, emotional, and cognitive needs.
Participate in interdisciplinary care planning meetings and complete assigned MDS documentation accurately and timely.
Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and facility regulations governing activity services.
Manage department budgets and monitor expenses responsibly.
Recruit, orient, train, and mentor activity personnel and volunteers.
Assist residents in organizing and maintaining an active Resident Council.
Foster positive relationships with residents, families, visitors, community partners, and members of the interdisciplinary team.
Maintain activity equipment and supplies to ensure safe and effective programming.
Coordinate and participate in community outings and special events, including transportation of residents when needed.

QualificationsQualifications
Qualified candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
Licensed or registered therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional; or
Eligible for certification as a recreational therapist or activities professional through a recognized accrediting body; or
Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant; or
Completion of a state-approved activities training course.
Additional Requirements
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a resident-centered social, recreational, or activities program.
Demonstrated leadership, customer service, organizational, and communication skills.
Experience supervising staff and volunteers preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively with residents, families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams.
Active, valid Virginia driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to safely operate a facility vehicle for resident outings.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, push, pull, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to push up to 50 pounds and pull up to 20 pounds.
