About this role
Senior Vice President, People Operations (HR)
Civitas Senior Living | Fort Worth, TX
Direct reports: People Operations Specialists, Recruiting, Learning & Development
About Civitas
Civitas Senior Living operates 32 independent living, assisted living, and memory care communities across Texas, Colorado, Kentucky, and Arizona. Roughly 2,400 team members come to work in those buildings every day, and the quality of their experience is what determines the quality of our residents' experience. We take that connection seriously enough to build our People function around it.
The role
We are hiring a Senior Vice President of People Operations to lead the day-to-day work of three teams — People Operations, Recruiting, and Learning & Development — and to serve as a trusted advisor to Civitas senior leadership on the workforce decisions that drive operational results.
This role runs on two tracks at once. The first is the daily work: hiring, employee relations, investigations, onboarding, training, and the hundred practical questions Executive Directors bring to the team each week. The second is structural: taking what currently works because a capable person is holding it together and turning it into a system that holds together on its own as we grow.
You will spend real time in our communities. The best people leaders in senior living know what a Wellness Director's Tuesday actually looks like, can read a labor report and a floor at the same time, and have enough credibility with operators that their advice gets taken. If you would rather manage from a distance, this is not the right seat.
What you'll own
Team leadership. Direct, hands-on leadership of the People Operations Specialists, the Recruiting function, and Learning & Development. You will set priorities, coach the people doing the work, and be accountable for what the department delivers.
Talent acquisition. Full-cycle recruiting performance across all communities and the Corporate office with particular attention to time-to-fill, agency reliance, and the quality of our leadership pipeline.
Learning and development. A development pathway that produces Executive Directors and department leaders from inside the company, along with the practical training our field teams need to run a compliant, well-staffed building.
Employee relations and compliance. Investigations, policy administration, and multi-state compliance across Texas, Colorado, Kentucky, and Arizona — including FLSA, ADA, FMLA, I-9, and state-specific requirements for licensed senior living communities.
Scalable infrastructure. Systems, workflows, documentation, and reporting that let the People function support additional communities without adding headcount in proportion. This includes getting real value out of the technology we already own.
Executive partnership. Direct advisory work with operations, finance, and sales leadership on retention, labor cost, organizational design, and the people implications of growth decisions.
What you bring
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including multi-site leadership in senior living, healthcare, hospitality, or another distributed, hourly-workforce industry
- Demonstrated experience leading a team of HR professionals, not only doing the work yourself
- A track record of building process and structure where none existed, and of retiring the ones that stopped working
- Fluency with workforce data — turnover, labor cost, staffing ratios, wage competitiveness — and the ability to explain what it means to an operator in one sentence
- Sound judgment in employee relations and investigations, with the discipline to document well and the nerve to deliver conclusions leadership may not want to hear
- Multi-state compliance experience; senior living or other licensed-care regulatory exposure strongly preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field; SHRM-SCP or SPHR preferred
- Willingness to travel to communities regularly (approximately 25–35%)
Compensation and benefits
Competitive base salary commensurate with experience, plus annual performance bonus. Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k); paid time off; and company-paid life insurance.
Civitas Senior Living is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
