Description & Requirements:

This classification installs, repairs, and maintains traffic signs and signals throughout the City.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The functions listed below are those that represent most of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

 

  • Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of signs and road markings in accordance with department procedures and traffic control device manual.

 

  • Fabricating and erects replacement street signs on City maintained streets.

 

  • Installing flexible delineators, bollards, and wheel stops.

 

  • Assists with various other tasks in the Public Works Department as needed (snow removal, driving trucks, etc.

 

  • Work is both indoor and outdoor, including on streets and right of ways.

 

  • Assists in the implementation of traffic control, detours, road closures, emergency situations, and special events; assists in the set up and installation of message boards for events.

 

  • Assists in inventory control.

 

  • Operates bucket truck, trencher, hydraulic post driver, hydraulic post puller, high BTU torches and other equipment to complete daily tasks.

 

  • Cleans and maintains the shop area.

 

Additional Functions:

  • Performs other related duties as required.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. One (1) year of experience in traffic maintenance or related field is required. 

Requires a valid state driver’s license, preferred CDL with an acceptable driving history.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-25 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require that ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors:

Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
