Role & Responsibilities
You will manage the day-to-day operations of the Group Fitness department within a specific club location. Success in this position will occur through excellent management of the group fitness instructors and schedule, and by providing excellent customer service.
Manage the Group Fitness Schedule and Instructors (40%)
Oversee Day to Day Operations of Group Fitness Program (30%)
Customer Service and Group Fitness Promotion (30%)
Manage the Group Fitness Schedule and Instructors
Create and monitor the group fitness schedule, including communications with instructors and operations staff and Exerp management (inputting the schedule)
Collaborate with General Managers, Senior Group Fitness Managers, and Lead Instructors to do this
Manage the group fitness instructors
Help in the hiring process
Help onboard, train, motivate, and assess these instructors to ensure high quality
Regularly audit and evaluate instructors to ensure excellent instruction and adherence to class formats
2-3 classes / week anticipated to audit
Help determine instructor schedule, including changing underperforming instructors / classes
Conduct trainings in area of expertise and general club needs
Oversee the Day-to-Day Operations of Group Fitness Program
Partner with the Hospitality Manager on hiring, training and scheduling associates for concierge shifts
Provide feedback and participate in team meetings, coaching sessions, disciplinary conversations or reviews as needed
Cross-train associates who show readiness for concierge shifts
Regularly review the concierge schedule to ensure the shifts meet the needs of the group fitness schedule and that the check in process is accurate and smooth
Be a presence at the Concierge desk to manage day to day operations for a few shifts per week
Manage substitutions and on-site instructor/scheduling/customer service issues
Oversee studio space quality, including inventory management
Ensure the attendance report spreadsheet is updated and distributed weekly
Coordinate with the housekeeping team and instructors to ensure that all group fitness studios are prepared, cleaned and organized for classes and member events.
Collaborate with General Managers and Sr. Group Fitness Director and Group Fitness Director to ensure all group fitness policies and procedures are updated and implemented
Ensure monthly payroll and supply expenses are at or below budget
Customer Service and Group Fitness Promotion
Provide high level, engaging customer service and hospitality to members
Ensure a high level of member participation in the group fitness program
Respond as needed to member comments, questions, complaints, and concerns
Help create new organization / feedback systems
Gather and analyze member and instructor feedback on the schedule, to be shared with Group Fitness leadership team. This includes data from Medallia and the new app
Collaborate with the Marketing Department
Help offer engaging, diverse, and well-organized fitness events, such as those promoting new classes and instructors
Help promote new classes or instructors on social media
Publish the monthly/quarterly schedules in a timely manner
Act as a social director, attending events that promote community, facilitate themed classes, offer floor hours for staff and members, and staff tables to increase program awareness
Attend classes on site and throughout the industry to stay current with trends and on the cutting edge of the fitness industry
Group Fitness Instruction
Group Fitness instruction is an optional, but recommended part of the role. Teaching hours are in addition to administrative duties
QualificationsQualifications: The successful candidate must have the following skills and experience:
Minimum of 2-years experience management in the fitness industry
Customer service experience, people oriented
Successful history of collaboration with team members, managing diverse and large staff
Proven background in building high performing teams, with the ability to mentor and cultivate the career path of team members
Familiar with managing a budget and staff and organizing schedules
Be an enthusiastic and friendly leader with the ability to recruit, hire, direct, and train staff
Excellent communication, problem solving, time management, organizational and follow-up skills are essential
Preferred
Experience teaching group fitness
Current CPR & national certification
Work Schedule
Full-time position, paid through bi-weekly payroll
Must have the flexibility to work a non-traditional schedule – must have weekend, holiday and early morning/midday/late evening weekday availability
