About this role

THE ROLE

Catlin Gabel School is seeking a dependable, service-minded Campus Technician I to help keep our campus clean, safe, welcoming, and ready for students and the many activities that happen here each day. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in practical work, and is willing to jump in wherever needed.

You will be an integral part of the Facilities team and work closely with community members and contracted custodial partners on daily campus care, basic maintenance, event setups, moves, and building security. The work can shift quickly, so we are looking for someone who stays calm, works safely, and enjoys solving problems in a dynamic school environment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Maintain Clean, Safe & Welcoming Campus Spaces: Care for classrooms, offices, restrooms, athletic facilities, and other campus spaces; handle trash, recycling, compost, sanitation, and basic maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Support Events, Moves & Campus Readiness: Set up and reset spaces for school and community events, move furniture and equipment, help with campus moves, and respond to work orders and facility requests.
  • Operate Equipment & Work Safely: Use custodial tools, ladders, lifts, and, after training, campus vehicles and equipment. Follow safety procedures and participate in emergency preparedness and response as assigned.
  • Provide Reliable Service & Campus Support: Help students, employees, families, and visitors; collaborate with Facilities colleagues and contractors; support building security and evening patrols; and use good judgment when working independently.

WHO YOU ARE & KEYS TO SUCCESS

You may bring previous custodial, janitorial, general maintenance, facilities, event setup, or other hands-on experience, but we also value reliability, judgment, and a willingness to learn. You must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to meet School insurance requirements.

  • Reliable & Responsive: You follow through and respond quickly when needs change.
  • Service-Oriented: You are helpful, respectful, and solutions-focused.
  • Safe & Practical Problem-Solver: You notice issues, work safely, and know when to ask for help.
  • Adaptable Team Player: You shift priorities, communicate well, and pitch in where needed.
  • Organized & Efficient: You work with urgency while maintaining quality and safety.

WHAT ELSE YOU SHOULD KNOW

This is a full-time, 12-month, hourly/non-exempt position with a regular schedule of 1:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m.

The schedule may change based on campus needs, events, and emergencies. Evening, weekend, and overtime work may be required. Spring break and summer are peak operational periods.

This is a physically demanding role requiring frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching; regular lifting up to 50 pounds independently; heavier lifting with assistance; and safe use of ladders, lifts, vehicles, and equipment after training.

Facilities employees are essential staff and may be required to report during emergencies and inclement weather.
