About this role

The Manager, Pharmacy Practice & Fulfillment Ops will have key responsibilities related to operations, inventory, personnel, and patient management and will develop and implement key strategies for the Pharmacy. This role reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy Operations. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing pharmacy operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving excellence in clinical practice. The role goes beyond the traditional Pharmacist in Charge by integrating operational execution, team leadership, and strategic alignment with organizational goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations Management

  • Direct and oversee all aspects of pharmacy operations, including distribution, delivery, customer service, clinical services, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, inventory management, and strategic planning. Lead daily operations with a focus on safety, accuracy, efficiency, and exceptional patient care while achieving established productivity, quality, and cost-management goals.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, Board of Pharmacy requirements, accreditation standards, and organizational policies and procedures. Develop, implement, and monitor quality assurance and quality control programs to maintain high standards of fulfillment accuracy, clinical excellence, and operational performance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to optimize workflows, enhance inventory management practices, support sales and marketing initiatives, and meet the clinical and financial information needs of the organization. Establish and maintain facility management programs, including environmental monitoring, housekeeping, pest control, preventative maintenance, calibration, security, and waste management.

  • Provide leadership and direction to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support personnel by fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, professional development, and employee engagement. Support strategic initiatives that drive operational scalability, service excellence, customer satisfaction, and organizational growth. Serve as a key liaison between pharmacy operations and executive leadership, providing insights, recommendations, and performance metrics to support informed business decisions.

Inventory Management

  • Develop and maintain programs to manage pharmacy inventory and medical equipment provided to patients. Supervise and/or perform inventory control activities, including, but not limited to, monitoring inventory levels, ordering, receiving, stocking, and shipping.

  • Personnel Management - Train and manage exempt and non-exempt pharmacy personnel. Direct the utilization of pharmacy personnel and resources to maintain a high level of customer service and satisfaction. Develop and manage safety programs for all pharmacy personnel. Direct and supervise the activities of pharmacy technicians and other supportive personnel in meeting department objectives and the care needs of patients. Evaluate performance and design development plans for all personnel.

Additional Responsibilities, including Patient Management

  • Establish and manage delivery services for all patients.

  • Develop and maintain clinical monitoring programs for all therapies and patients, as appropriate.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary patient care conferences.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, information technology, engineering, or related field; equivalent experience accepted.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in pharmacy operations, informatics, or automation systems management.

  • Proven success coordinating technology initiatives in a regulated pharmacy fulfillment environment.

  • Experience supporting pharmacy management systems (e.g., Epic, EnterpriseRx, PioneerRx, Parata, ScriptPro, or similar).

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.

  • Travel to alternate pharmacy sites, conferences, and meetings as needed, typically <20%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PharmD and licensure in Indiana

  • Experience with automation, robotics, IVR, or warehouse systems integration in mail-order or specialty pharmacy settings.

  • Familiarity with HL7, SQL, API integrations, and reporting tools.

  • Project Management certification (PMP, Agile, or equivalent) or Pharmacy Informatics certification a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Deep understanding of pharmacy workflows, dispensing systems, and automation technology.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills across technical and operational domains.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with data-driven decision-making mindset.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, inventory systems, and reporting platforms.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent priorities.

  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills.

  • Significant experience in clinical monitoring services.

  • Excellent clinical pharmacy skills, laboratory value monitoring, and patient teaching skills.

  • Ability to coordinate patient care and pharmacy operations.

  • Previous experience managing exempt and non-exempt personnel is preferred.

  • Well-developed problem-solving and decision-making skills are required to make sound and intelligent decisions with respect to business and clinical issues.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Personal resiliency to accept changing workflows and unexpected demands and to expeditiously reallocate time and efforts for self and others.

  • Experience making fiscal decisions that positively affect the profitability of the business.

  • Broad working knowledge of products, drugs, pumps, and supplies used in the community in which the company provides services for patients.

  • Bilingual skills are desirable (English/Spanish).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.

  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance or mechanical equipment.

  • Regular bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching at or above shoulder level.

  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and work platforms as required.

  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle, grasp, sort, package, and operate equipment.

  • Ability to perform repetitive motions involving the hands, wrists, and arms.

  • Capability to safely operate warehouse equipment, including automated dispensing machines, pallet jacks, and other material-handling devices, where certified and authorized.

  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including temperature fluctuations, dust, noise, vibrations, and warehouse traffic.

  • Visual ability to read labels, inventory information, computer screens, and shipping documents.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and drivers in a fast-paced environment.

  • Capacity to maintain attention to detail and awareness of surroundings while working around moving equipment and machinery.

  • Ability to meet productivity standards and perform physical tasks in a fast-paced distribution or warehouse setting.

  • Ability to wear and utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE) safely and consistently.

  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including overtime, weekends, and holidays, as business needs require.

The expected base pay range for this position is $160,000–$180,000 per year. The actual compensation for the position may vary based on market differences and on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and can vary based on location and/or work schedule.
