PET/CT Technology Technician

Job Summary

The PET Technology Technician is responsible for performing positron emission tomography (PET) and PET/CT imaging procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing and monitoring disease. This role ensures high-quality imaging, patient safety, and compliance with radiation safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Perform PET and PET/CT imaging procedures according to established protocols

Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals in compliance with radiation safety standards

Verify patient identity, review medical history, and explain procedures to patients

Position patients accurately to obtain optimal diagnostic images

Monitor patients during procedures and respond appropriately to adverse reactions

Operate, calibrate, and perform basic troubleshooting of PET imaging equipment

Maintain accurate patient records, imaging data, and documentation

Adhere to ALARA principles and all local, state, and federal radiation regulations

Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized imaging environment

Participate in quality assurance, quality control, and continuing education activities

Qualifications

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related field

Certification by ARRT (N) and/or NMTCB required

PET and/or PET/CT certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe)

Valid state licensure where required

Knowledge of radiopharmaceutical handling and radiation safety

Strong attention to detail and patient care skills

Skills & Competencies

Proficiency in PET and PET/CT imaging systems

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team

Physical ability to assist and position patients safely

Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR)
