Role Summary
The Vice Chair of the Board of Directors serves as a key leadership partner to the Board Chair and Principal Director in advancing the mission, vision, strategic priorities, and organizational sustainability of Capital Resource Connections. The Vice Chair supports effective governance, strengthens Board engagement and accountability, and assumes the responsibilities of the Chair when the Chair is unavailable.
The Vice Chair is expected to be an active ambassador for the organization and help cultivate relationships that advance its programs, fundraising efforts, community partnerships, and long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities
Board Leadership & Governance
Support the Board Chair in providing effective leadership to the Board of Directors.
Preside over Board meetings in the absence of the Chair.
Assist in ensuring the Board fulfills its fiduciary, legal, ethical, and governance responsibilities.
Promote active participation, accountability, and collaboration among Board members.
Help establish and monitor annual Board priorities, objectives, training requirements, and performance goals.
Support the development and implementation of Board policies and procedures.
Strategic Planning & Organizational Development
Work with the Chair, Principal Director, and Board to advance the organization's strategic plan.
Monitor progress toward organizational goals and recommend adjustments when needed.
Assist the Board in identifying opportunities for organizational growth, sustainability, and increased community impact.
Encourage Board members to use their professional expertise, networks, and resources to support organizational priorities.
Fundraising & Resource Development
Actively support the Board's fundraising and resource development efforts.
Participate in donor cultivation, sponsorship development, grant opportunities, and fundraising campaigns as appropriate.
Help establish expectations for Board participation in fundraising and community outreach.
Leverage professional and community networks to identify potential partners, donors, sponsors, and funding opportunities.
Principal Director Support
Serve as a leadership partner to the Board Chair in supporting and providing appropriate oversight to the Principal Director.
Participate in the Principal Director's performance evaluation process, as requested by the Board.
Help maintain clear communication between the Board and the Principal Director while respecting appropriate governance boundaries.
Provide leadership support during periods of transition or organizational challenge.
Committee & Board Engagement
Serve on or provide leadership to Board committees as assigned.
Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and retaining effective Board members.
Encourage Board members to remain informed about organizational programs, finances, policies, and community needs.
Help address Board engagement or performance concerns in collaboration with the Chair.
Community Representation
Represent Capital Resource Connections at community meetings, professional events, fundraisers, and other activities when appropriate.
Serve as an ambassador for the organization's mission, programs, and community impact.
Build relationships with community organizations, businesses, funders, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications & Expectations
The ideal Vice Chair will:
Demonstrate commitment to the mission and values of Capital Resource Connections.
Have strong leadership, communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
Understand or have an interest in nonprofit governance, fundraising, strategic planning, or community development.
Be willing to contribute professional expertise and community connections.
Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Actively participate in Board meetings, committee work, organizational events, and strategic initiatives.
Support the organization as a positive and engaged ambassador.
Demonstrated understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities associated with serving on the Board of a startup nonprofit, including the willingness to actively contribute time, expertise, relationships, and resources to support organizational development, sustainability, and growth.
Minimum Requirements
Must be fully proficient with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams;
Ability to be trustworthy and execute actions in the best interests of the financial stability of Capital Resource Connections;
Professional member in good public standing;
Demonstrated involvement in local community outreach and/or advocacy, state and/or national levels;
Compliance with the Capital Resource Connections Code of Ethical Standards;
Involvement in two multi-day board retreats per year
Maintain board director fiduciary responsibilities as it relates to funding and the development of the organization; and
Enjoy advocating for the LGBTQIA+ community
Time Commitment
The Vice Chair is expected to:
Attend regularly scheduled Board meetings.
Participate in committee meetings and leadership meetings as assigned.
Prepare for meetings by reviewing relevant materials in advance.
Participate in organizational events, fundraising activities, and strategic initiatives.
Respond to time-sensitive Board and organizational matters when necessary.
Term & Accountability
The Vice Chair serves a three-year term established by the organization's bylaws and is accountable to the Board of Directors. The Vice Chair works closely with the Board Chair and Principal Director while maintaining the independence and oversight responsibilities required of the Board.
Leadership Succession
The Vice Chair should be prepared to assume the duties and responsibilities of the Board Chair when the Chair is unavailable, unable to serve, or when otherwise authorized by the Board. The Vice Chair should also support leadership continuity and organizational stability during periods of Board or executive leadership transition.

All board meetings are in-person, while all other tasks are to be completed remotely.
