About this role
The Financial Literacy Instructor is responsible for delivering engaging, culturally responsive financial education that empowers participants to achieve greater financial stability and long-term economic success. This role facilitates classroom instruction, workshops, and one-on-one coaching while supporting participants in developing practical money management skills, increasing financial confidence, and achieving individualized financial goals.
Working collaboratively with program staff and community partners, the Financial Literacy Instructor helps ensure participants complete the organization's financial literacy curriculum and are equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to make informed financial decisions.
Essential Responsibilities
Deliver financial literacy workshops using the organization's approved curriculum.
Facilitate interactive lessons on budgeting, banking, credit management, debt reduction, savings, investing basics, taxes, consumer protection, and financial goal setting.
Provide individualized financial coaching to help participants establish and achieve personal financial goals.
Conduct participant assessments before, during, and after program completion to measure knowledge gained and program outcomes.
Assist participants in creating realistic spending plans, savings strategies, and debt repayment plans.
Monitor participant progress and maintain accurate documentation within the organization's case management system.
Refer participants to community resources and financial institutions when appropriate.
Support workforce development initiatives by integrating financial wellness into employment readiness and career advancement activities.
Maintain confidentiality of participant records and comply with organizational policies and applicable privacy regulations.
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, outreach events, and community presentations.
Assist with collecting program data and preparing reports required by grants and funding agencies.
Stay current on financial education best practices, consumer finance regulations, and available community resources.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Education, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two (2) years of experience providing financial education, financial coaching, workforce development, adult education, or community-based services.
Strong knowledge of personal finance principles, including budgeting, credit, debt management, banking, savings, and consumer financial protection.
Excellent presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience working with diverse and underserved communities.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and virtual meeting platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®), Certified Financial Education Instructor (CFEI®), Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), or similar financial education credential.
Experience working with LGBTQIA+ communities and individuals experiencing financial hardship.
Experience with grant-funded programs and outcome measurement.

Physical Requirements
Ability to facilitate classroom instruction for extended periods.
Ability to travel locally for workshops, outreach events, and partner meetings.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds of educational materials and equipment when necessary.

Improvements in participant financial knowledge through pre- and post-assessments.
Participant achievement of individualized financial goals.
Increased participant savings and reductions in debt where applicable.

Work Environment
This position operates in a hybrid environment, including office, classroom, virtual, and community-based settings. Evening or weekend workshops may be required based on program needs.
