Position Overview:

The Front Line Manager I, Fabrication is responsible for supervising and supporting union skilled trades across fitting, welding, assembly, machining, and associated fabrication operations within the Barberton facility. This role ensures safe, high‑quality, and efficient execution of daily production work, maintains strong communication across shifts, and supports the coordination of fabrication activities to meet schedule and quality requirements.

The FLM I provides direct, hands‑on leadership during shift operations, plays a key role in preparing upcoming work for downstream teams, and contributes to ongoing improvements in workflow, safety, and production processes. Flexibility across shifts and work areas is essential, and scheduled overtime may be required to support operational needs.

This position is primarily assigned to 2nd Shift; however, flexibility to transition between shifts, departments, and work areas is essential to maintain seamless operations. Scheduled overtime may be required based on operational demand.

Your Day to Day as a Front-Line Manager I

Operational Leadership & Team Management
• Supervise and mentor union hourly skilled trades in fitting, welding, assembly, machining, and related fabrication processes.
• Provide clear direction and support to ensure alignment with safety rules, quality standards, and daily production expectations.
• Maintain strong communication with other shifts to support continuity of operations and consistent execution of work.

Production Planning & Execution
• Coordinate assigned work activities across multiple buildings and production areas to meet schedule requirements.
• Oversee manual, robotic, and automatic welding and machining operations, along with stress‑relief processes and lifting/handling tasks.
• Communicate component requirements, specifications, and task sequencing to ensure teams understand what must be completed and why.

Data Management & Systems Use
• Input and manage data related to labor hours, production schedules, maintenance work orders, and workflow tracking within applicable systems.
• Use established processes, instructions, and tools to make informed decisions within defined guidelines.

Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
• Identify and escalate operational issues, and work with technical support teams to resolve fabrication challenges and formalize corrective actions.
• Recommend improvements to shop efficiency, workflow management, safety, and cost control within the production areas.
• Support implementation of updated standards, best practices, and new technologies as directed.

Flexibility & Availability
• Flex between shifts, buildings, and fabrication work areas as needed based on staffing, schedule changes, or emergent operations.
• Work scheduled overtime to support production continuity and customer commitments.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) year of relevant experience in a supervisory role, ideally within a unionized heavy‑manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Strong background in heavy fabrication, fitting, welding, and machining operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and engage skilled trades in a complex production setting.
  • Ability to work independently within established practices and use sound judgment to resolve routine operational issues.
  • Motivated to support production teams, identify issues, and help drive timely solutions.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively guide a diverse workforce and convey information about complex components.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with G&M Codes, MS Office, SharePoint, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, and overhead cranes a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree is a plus.

Pay: $65,000 - $93,000

 

The base salary range for this position in Ohio (US-OH) at the start of employment is expected to be between $65,000 and $93,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
