The Swim Lesson Coordinator at the YMCA intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined. The incumbent is responsible for assisting the Aquatics Director in managing the YMCA Swim Lesson Program. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.


 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent; required.
  • Minimum age of 21; required.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills; required.
  • At least two years of swim lesson instruction and supervisory experience; required.
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification within 30 days of employment.
  • YMCA Swim Instructor Certification required within 6 months of employment.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Responsible for managing the swim lesson program at the YMCA.
  2. Coordinate all group and private swim lessons, including schedules, rosters and report cards.
  3. Conduct swim lessons as needed.
  4. Responsible for staff training and maintaining staff certification requirements. 
  5. Oversee swim lesson staff and be present during all group lessons.
  6. Ensure lessons begin/end on time.
  7. Communicate effectively with staff the weekly instructor curriculum. Ensure curriculum is being executed correctly.
  8. Maintain pool areas in regard to equipment, safety, inventory and cleanliness.
  9. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

ALL POSITIONS REQUIRE THE FOLLOWING CLEARANCES FOR EMPLOYMENT PRIOR TO THE DATE OF HIRE. CLEARANCES ARE ACCEPTED WITHIN 2 YEARS OF THE HIRE DATE. EMPLOYEES MAY BE COMPENSATED UP TO $50.00 FOR CLEARANCES ONCE THE PROBATIONARY PERIOD HAS BEEN PASSED.
