JOB SUMMARY
The MDU Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, productivity, quality, safety, and performance of MDU (Multi-Dwelling Unit) telecommunications installation and maintenance activities. This position provides leadership and direction to MDU Technicians and ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, professionally, and according to company and customer standards.
The MDU Supervisor serves as a working leader who assists technicians with troubleshooting, complex installations, repairs, splicing, cable network issues, and other field-related challenges. The position requires strong technical knowledge, leadership abilities, communication skills, organization, and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS – INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Supervise, lead, and provide direction to MDU Technicians and field personnel.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate daily work assignments and crew activities.
- Monitor employee productivity, attendance, performance, and adherence to company expectations.
- Provide training, coaching, and field instruction to technicians as needed.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new MDU Technicians.
- Lead by example and promote a professional, productive, and team-oriented work environment.
- Address employee performance and field issues promptly and communicate concerns to management.
- Ensure technicians have the proper tools, equipment, materials, and information necessary to complete assigned work.
MDU OPERATIONS & TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee cable maintenance, repair, installation, troubleshooting, and service provisioning within MDU environments.
- Assist technicians in locating and repairing cable faults while minimizing service disruptions.
- Provide technical support for complex signal, connectivity, cabling, and network issues.
- Maintain working knowledge of various types of cable, splicing activities, safety equipment, and telecommunications tools.
- Understand and interpret splice schematics, network documentation, construction drawings, and work orders.
- Verify accurate cable terminations on cross-connects, patch panels, hubs, routers, and related telecommunications equipment.
- Ensure work is completed according to customer specifications, company standards, and applicable telecommunications practices.
- Conduct field inspections to verify workmanship, installation quality, and completion of assigned work.
- Identify potential construction, installation, or network issues and implement appropriate solutions.
- Coordinate with other departments, crews, customers, property managers, and representatives when necessary to resolve field issues.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous telecommunications, cable, fiber, or MDU construction experience.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of telecommunications cable installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Ability to read and understand splice schematics, work orders, and construction documentation.
- Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple crews, projects, and priorities.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Must maintain a professional attitude and provide excellent customer service.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
EDUCATION & LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
LANGUAGE / MATHEMATICAL SKILLS & REASONING ABILITY
- Must be able to communicate effectively in written and verbal English.
- Must possess the ability to understand instructions, identify problems, and apply sound judgment in the field.
REASONING ABILITY & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to work aloft and perform aerial telecommunications construction duties.
- Must have manual dexterity and the ability to safely utilize various hand tools and test equipment.
- Must be able to drive a truck or van, including vehicles equipped with an aerial lift.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to use a computer and smartphone to read, update, and communicate information from construction prints.
- Must be able to kneel, crawl, push, pull, bend, stoop, lift, and dig.
- Must meet and maintain the Company’s safe weight policy.
