Guided by our values of integrity, respect, and excellence, we are seeking an experienced dayshift IPU Charge Nurse to join our team at our First Commerce Center for Compassionate Care, an 8 bed Hospice In-patient Unit.
The ideal candidate for our Charge Nurse position is a compassionate and skilled leader who embodies the values of hospice care. They will support and guide staff through clear communication, thoughtful assignments, and clinical expertise. With strong critical thinking and a heart for service, they ensure quality, comfort, and dignity for every patient. This nurse will actively collaborate with the care team, address concerns promptly, and serve as a resource for both clinical and procedural guidance while delivering empathetic education and support to patients and families during life’s most meaningful moments.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
The dayshift IPU Charge Nurse responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
Demonstrate knowledge of the hospice philosophy.
Makes staff assignments based on patient’s needs and staff competency to ensure efficient utilization of resources.
Make rounds to ensure all patient needs are met and staff behaviors reflect the organization’s values.
Identifies problems with the quality of patient care and initiates actions for resolution and service recovery.
Serves as the clinical and systems information resource for staff, ensuring that nursing personnel follows departmental policies and procedures.
Ensures that supplies and durable medical equipment are available to meet the needs of the patients.
Assures that IDT develops the Plan of Care and assists staff in establishing goals appropriate for each patient.
Addresses employee behavior and relays performance issues/concerns to management in a timely manner. Provides input for the completion of performance evaluations.
Actively participates in interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings; is punctual and comes prepared to discuss care plans for assigned patients.
Proactively apply pain and symptom management principles to nursing interventions for quality patient care.
Provides active listening and frequently interacts with patients and visitors.
Understand the disease process progresses. Providing comfort care to actively dying patients.
Educate patients and families regarding death and dying.
Possess critical thinking skills to clarify goals, examine assumptions, discern hidden values, evaluate evidence, accomplish action, and assess conclusions.
Demonstrate good interpersonal relationships with patients, families, co-workers, and other health team members. Communicates with medical providers in a clear and concise manner.
Schedule: 7pm - 7 am night shift
QualificationsEducation & Experience
Must have an active Florida RN License
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is preferred
Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required
Hospice, Home Health, Oncology, or ICU experience preferred
Skills & Abilities
Ability to handle stress and long shifts
Ability to remain calm and troubleshoot/handle patient/family crisis situations.
Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and effectively.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Ability to make decisions based on the expectations of supervisors.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software including an EMR system.
Requirements
Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
