Senior Director, Expansion

Job Title: Senior Director, Expansion

Department: State Operations and Programs

Reports to: Vice President, State Operations 

# of direct reports: 6-8

Position Overview:  The Senior Director, National Expansion is primarily responsible for ensuring revenue, programmatic and operational goals are met for the national expansion project. They will work with the VP, State Operations and the expansion leadership team to develop and implement strategies for resource development, volunteer recruitment, and program expansion.  

Job Qualifications – Qualified applicants must have:

• At least seven years progressive experience in staff management, fundraising, and strategy development 
• Superior project management skills - including planning, analysis, decision making, and problem solving - and willingness to multi-task
• Superior initiative, drive for results, and self-assessment skills, and ability to lead individuals and teams in setting and achieving challenging goals
• Must be highly dependable, lead by example and be willing/able to adapt communication style to fit the situation and facilitate cross-departmental strategies
• Superior communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to train and mentor staff as well as lead staff training workshops 
• Superior persuasive writing and presentation skills with the ability to exert influence, inspire others, and articulate the mission, goals, and activities of Best Buddies with passion and enthusiasm
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, financial and database management systems 

Job Duties include, but are not limited to:

Programs

• Work with Director, Operations & Director, Programs to develop strategy of program expansion and mission delivery
• Travels to expansion sites as needed to meet with staff, see programs, operations, volunteer board dynamics, and fundraising initiatives in action, 
• Develop specific management strategies for regions/states as needed, while providing coaching and support

Fund Development

• Ensure the successful roll out and implementation of fundraising initiatives, and oversee the execution of these with the local and expansion-wide development staff 
• Support and provide training for expansion staff and volunteer leadership to develop high level, results oriented advisory boards throughout the expansion areas 
• Work with expansion staff on strategies for recruiting event committee members, volunteers and champions 
• Provide direct support to expansion staff as needed on all fundraising events, including coaching and gap-to-goal strategies

• Analyzes and oversees budget processes and approvals for all expansion fundraising events
• Oversees and communicates national tracking and pacing of expansion states’ Champion of the Year and Friendship Walks

• Establishes relationships with potential grant funders and ensures expansion staff are executing grant stewardship plans
• Works with the deputy director, expansion foundations & grants to ensure foundation proposals are submitted and successful progress is made to achieve foundation grant goals for all expansion areas

 Operations

• Ensures expansion states are meeting and exceeding programmatic, revenue, and operational goals 
• Oversees budgeting, tracking and monitors grant spending process for all states/regions in national expansion, and provides updates on status to the VP, expansion & mission advancement Collaborates with the government relations department on proposal submissions and contract management for expansion states

Human Resources

• Inspires and motivates field staff by demonstrating personal commitment and integrity and providing proactive training, support, and recognition.
• Directly supervises the Director of Operations, Director of Programs, Expansion Development Director, and Directors, Mission Advancement in expansion states - responsible for staff development, oversight, and providing meaningful performance feedback.
• Collaborate with the department on roll out and implementation of HR/finance policies and procedures, and oversee the successful execution of these in expansion states
