Bascom Hunter is seeking a creative and technically minded Graphic Design & Animation Intern to support the development of visual content for our aerospace and defense technologies, products, and capabilities. This position will work closely with the marketing and engineering teams to transform complex technical concepts into clear, engaging visual communications.
The intern will support a variety of projects including graphic design, technical illustrations, product renderings, motion graphics, animations, digital content, presentations, and marketing materials. This role is ideal for a student interested in combining creative design with technology and gaining experience communicating highly technical products and concepts.
Bascom Hunter provides custom solutions to the Department of Defense and aerospace markets, with capabilities spanning advanced electronics, communications, RF systems, environmental control, thermal management, power, and other mission-critical technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create graphics, illustrations, layouts, and other visual assets for digital and print applications.
- Develop 2D and/or 3D animations that help communicate technical concepts, product functionality, system operation, and engineering capabilities.
- Create product renderings and visualizations for use in presentations, websites, videos, trade shows, social media, and marketing materials.
- Translate technical information, engineering concepts, and complex systems into clear and visually engaging content.
- Work with engineering teams to understand products and technologies and accurately represent them through graphics and animation.
- Support the development of diagrams, infographics, technical illustrations, and system-level visualizations.
- Create motion graphics and animated elements for corporate and product videos.
- Assist with video editing, post-production, transitions, titles, and other visual effects.
- Develop graphics and supporting assets for the company website, social media, digital campaigns, presentations, brochures, and other marketing materials.
- Assist with photography and video content as needed, including editing and post-production.
- Adapt existing creative assets for different platforms, dimensions, and applications.
- Maintain consistency with Bascom Hunter brand standards across visual materials.
- Organize and maintain graphic, photography, video, animation, and other digital assets.
- Collaborate with marketing, engineering, business development, and other teams to execute creative projects.
Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Animation, Motion Graphics, Digital Media, Visual Communication, 3D Design, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of graphic design principles, including typography, composition, layout, and visual hierarchy.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, or Premiere Pro.
- Experience creating digital graphics and visual content.
- Strong attention to detail and visual consistency.
- Ability to interpret information and translate concepts into effective visual communications.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Ability to receive feedback and incorporate revisions into creative work.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with both creative and technical teams.
- Portfolio or examples of relevant design work required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with 2D or 3D animation and motion graphics.
- Experience with 3D modeling, rendering, or visualization software such as Blender, Cinema 4D, Maya, 3ds Max, or similar tools.
- Experience with Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro.
- Experience with video editing and post-production.
- Experience developing technical illustrations, diagrams, infographics, or product visualizations.
- Familiarity with CAD models or experience converting engineering models into presentation-quality renderings or animations.
- Experience with photography or videography.
- Experience designing for both digital and print applications.
- Interest in aerospace, defense, engineering, technology, or technical communications.
- Previous internship, freelance, academic, or project-based design experience.
This is a paid internship opportunity with both full-time and part-time schedules available. Summer interns typically work full-time, with opportunities for part-time work during the academic year based on business needs and intern availability. Start and end dates are flexible based on the intern's academic schedule.
The internship provides the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on real aerospace and defense engineering programs and may provide a pathway to future employment opportunities with Bascom Hunter.
