Banquet Captain

Job Overview
The On-Call Banquet Captain is responsible for providing exceptional guest service during meetings, weddings, banquets, and other special events, as well as assisting with regular food and beverage serving shifts based on hotel business needs. During the transition period, this position will work a combination of Banquet Captain shifts and regular serving shifts to gain experience across both banquet and food and beverage operations. The position is intended to transition to a full-time role as business needs and scheduling allow.
The Banquet Captain must be dependable, professional, flexible, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the hotel's service standards.
Responsibilities
Banquet & Event Service
- Work assigned banquet shifts and assist with the setup, execution, and breakdown of meetings, weddings, banquets, and other special events.
- Serve food and beverages according to event specifications and hotel standards.
- Assist with buffet service, plated meals, receptions, and other banquet functions.
- Set up banquet rooms, including tables, chairs, linens, place settings, and décor.
- Assist with the breakdown and cleaning of banquet spaces following events.
- When assigned to a Banquet Captain shift, assist with coordinating event setup, service, staff assignments, and guest needs.
- Communicate with the Banquet Manager, Captain, culinary team, and other departments to ensure successful events.
Regular Serving Shifts
- Work regular serving shifts in the hotel's food and beverage outlets as assigned.
- Provide attentive and courteous table service to guests.
- Take and deliver food and beverage orders accurately and efficiently.
- Replenish food, beverages, and supplies as needed.
- Clear tables and maintain clean and organized dining and service areas.
- Follow all food and beverage service standards and procedures.
Guest Service
- Greet guests in a friendly and professional manner.
- Provide attentive and courteous service throughout banquet events and regular serving shifts.
- Respond to guest questions and requests promptly and professionally.
- Address guest concerns appropriately and notify a supervisor when additional assistance is needed.
- Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to a welcoming guest experience.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work closely with Banquet Captains, supervisors, culinary staff, servers, and other hotel departments.
- Follow instructions and complete assigned duties in a timely manner.
- Communicate guest needs, special requests, and service concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist other team members as needed to maintain efficient service.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all hotel policies, safety procedures, and sanitation standards.
- Handle food and beverages safely and in accordance with health regulations.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Report safety hazards, damaged equipment, or maintenance concerns to a supervisor.
Qualifications
· Proven experience as a Banquet Captain or similar role in a hotel or catering environment.
· Strong leadership and organizational skills.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
· Knowledge of food and beverage service standards.
· Proficiency in using point-of-sale systems and other relevant software.
· Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.

- High School diploma or equivalent and/or experience in a related field preferred.
- College course work in a related field helpful
