About the role

The Technical Author is expected to prepare, develop and update material with guidance, for incorporation into Company publications or those where Babcock has been identified as a publication sponsor, while developing knowledge, experience and skills. 

 

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Authoring.
  • Illustrations and graphics; ensuring that publication format and content are compliant with Company and contractual requirements. 
  • Plan, deliver and monitor own tasks, ensuring requirements are delivered to agreed time, quality and cost targets.
  • Produce (under guidance) technical documentation and solutions in support of assigned tasks (in accordance with applicable Delegation of Authority).
  • Contribute to accurate and appropriate technical documentation records being securely developed and maintained in the appropriate data management system to support through-life knowledge capture.
  • Contribute to technical information presentation and discussion (including formal reviews) with customers (internal and external).
  • Contribute to engineering/technical team decisions, and understand why such decisions are made, and their relationship to project objectives.
  • Have a basic understanding of the application of ILS and LSA principles and techniques in the development and maintenance of Mission and Support System documentation.
  • Responsible for the Product Safety implications and consequences of their role in the Engineering Lifecycle.
  • Conduct technical risk assessments.
  • Ensure procedures, codes and standards are correctly identified and applied to engineering and technical activities.
  • Produce (under guidance) technical authoring processes to ensure integration with all operational areas

 

About you

To be successful you will have:

  • Diploma in Engineering or relevant Trade Certificate;
  • Demonstrable Naval Mechanical/Electrical Engineering experience;
  • AMPS level 35 or equivalent;
  • Intermediate level of MS Excel and Word applications;
  • Demonstrable ability to use initiative and prioritise workload;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills;
  • Strong computer skills; and
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve desired results.
  • Australian Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance
