Position Summary: The Marine Engineering Configuration Analyst is responsible for managing engineering analysis, configuration monitoring, and technical research for all Ready Reserve Force (RRF) shipboard systems, equipment, and associated parts. This role supports the accuracy and integrity of vessel configuration data by analyzing information within the ABS Nautical Systems Enterprise (NSE) platform, documenting configuration changes, and recommending updates to equipment hierarchies, maintenance requirements, technical manuals, and spare parts inventories.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide technical and research support for material and equipment procurement activities, evaluates shipboard machinery and equipment documentation, and determines appropriate critical spare parts allowances based on operational requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Working closely with logistics, engineering, and maintenance teams, the analyst develops and implements process improvements related to engineering analysis, provisioning, and configuration management.
  • Responsibilities also include maintaining equipment and parts information in automated logistics databases, validating technical data, supporting overhaul and inventory projects, and conducting onboard audits to verify equipment configurations and spare parts inventories.
  • Extensive knowledge of marine hull, mechanical, and electrical (HM&E) systems, strong analytical and database skills, and experience interpreting technical manuals, drawings, and shipboard documentation.
  • Occasional travel is required to support configuration audits, logistics overhauls, and fleet-wide engineering data validation activities aboard RRF vessels throughout the United States.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • BS in Engineering or Data Management field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years related marine engineering experience required. 
  • Detailed practical knowledge of common HM&E shipboard systems including but not limited to ventilation, electrical systems, propulsion, hydraulics, auxiliary, valves, pumps and motors. Familiarity with ship repair parts and a basic ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings and blueprints. 
  • Prior USN or Coast Guard experience with background as MM, MK, BT, EN, EM, GS or Merchant Marine Engineer.
  • Experience in use of Haystack Gold and/or LogiQuest a plus. 
  • Knowledge of ABS Nautical Systems Enterprise (NSE) software a plus.
  • Computer proficiency in MSOFFICE business applications, with advanced level ability in MSEXCEL and MSACCESS.
  • Must be able to work and transit in a shipboard environment.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Work may require frequent bending, reaching and climbing. 
  • May frequently lift and carry items weighing up to fifty pounds and occasionally lift heavier items with the assistance of other workers. 
  • Work may be performed on top or under equipment in cramped or awkward positions.
