AssistRx is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to lead the architecture, engineering, and production deployment of advanced AI and machine learning (ML) systems that power strategic decision-making and patient engagement across the organization. This role requires a unique blend of hands-on technical depth and engineering leadership, as the Principal AI Engineer will guide the team through the complete lifecycle of AI systems — from architecture and prototyping through product ionization, scaling, and ongoing operation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Architect and Implement AI Systems: Design and build production-grade AI/ML and Generative AI (GenAI) systems, including LLM-based applications, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, and agentic workflows, that effectively address business challenges and improve patient outcomes.

Infrastructure Coordination: Work closely with the IT department to establish and enhance the technology infrastructure and stack required to support and scale AI initiatives, including model-serving, CI/CD, and observability tooling.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, product, data science, and business teams to ensure alignment of AI engineering projects with broader organizational goals and objectives.

MLOps and Product ionization: Establish and maintain best practices for model deployment, versioning, monitoring, and performance optimization to ensure AI systems are secure, reliable, and cost-efficient at scale.

Mentorship and Team Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers and data scientists, fostering an environment of innovation, continuous learning, and technical excellence within the team.

QUALIFICATIONS

10+ years of proven experience in AI/ML engineering, software engineering, or related disciplines, with a strong portfolio of production AI systems.

Excellent programming skills in languages such as Python and SQL, and experience with modern AI/ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face).

Hands-on experience building and deploying LLM-based applications, including RAG and agentic architectures.

Strong understanding of data infrastructure, cloud computing, MLOps, and ML pipeline automation.

Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Leadership experience, particularly in mentoring and developing engineering talent.

Experience with healthcare data and associated compliance/regulatory considerations.

     Technical Capacity.
