Job Title: Network Cabling Technician - Level 1

Position Summary

The Network Cabling Technician at Automated Systems Design (ASD) plays a foundational role in deploying physical IT infrastructure, low-voltage cabling, and integrated technology solutions for corporate, commercial, and enterprise clients. This position is responsible for the physical installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems (including copper Cat5e/6/6A and fiber optic cable). The technician ensures all installations adhere to ASD’s high quality standards, job scope specifications, safety protocols (OSHA), and industry standards (BICSI/TIA/EIA). 


Key Responsibilities

  • Structured Cabling Installation: Pull, route, dress, and terminate copper (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A) and fiber optic cabling through conduits, cable trays, J-hooks, and elevated pathways.

  • Telecom Room Buildouts: Assemble and populate equipment racks, cabinets, patch panels, cable management, and wall-mounted hardware in Main Distribution Frames (MDF) and Intermediate Distribution Frames (IDF).

  • Testing & Certification: Use Fluke or equivalent network testers to perform continuity tests, wire map checks, OTDR fiber testing, and certification of line drops; generate accurate test reports.

  • Low-Voltage System Support: Assist with the physical mounting and connection of peripheral devices, including Wireless Access Points (WAPs), CCTV cameras, access control hardware, and audiovisual components.

  • Blueprint & Schematic Reading: Interpret site plans, architectural floor plans, schematics, and work orders to verify cable routes and drop locations.

  • Documentation & Compliance: Ensure all cables, patch panels, and wall plates are labeled clearly per TIA/EIA standards and project specifications. Maintain complete "as-built" documentation.

  • Safety & Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and secure work site while strictly following site safety standards and ladder/lift safety practices.


Required Qualifications

  • 0-1 year with little to no network cable installation or telecommunications installation experience. 

  • High School-level math, reading, and writing skills are required 

  • Basic power & hand tool familiarity 

  • Ability to work on a team 

  • Self-motivated 

  • Basic Computer Skills (email, typing)
