Great outcomes start with great people and Armor has an exciting opportunity for a Regional Behavioral Health Director to lead our clinical team regionally.
Responsibilities
• Provides leadership, direction, and consultation for behavioral health services across the assigned region, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, contractual obligations, accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based correctional healthcare practices.
• Manages, monitors, and assesses all assigned behavioral health programs to ensure adherence to federal, state, and correctional health care standards, as well as institutional regulations and guidelines, in the provision of health care services.
• The Regional Behavioral Health Director is primarily an administrative, operational, and clinical leadership position and does not maintain a routine patient caseload. Direct clinical services may be provided on an exception basis during emergencies, staffing shortages, activation periods, crisis situations, or other extraordinary operational circumstances, and only within jurisdictions where the Director maintains the appropriate licensure and scope of practice.
• Trains and monitors site-based behavioral health staff to deliver best-in-class behavioral health services so that program outcomes meet or exceed accepted industry and accreditation standards.
• Develops leadership capacity among site-based behavioral health leaders through mentoring, coaching, professional development, competency assessment, and succession planning initiatives. Identifies high-potential employees and supports leadership development strategies that promote workforce stability, engagement, retention, and long-term organizational success.
• Regularly monitors and reports on population health management, operational risk, workforce impact analysis, and behavioral health outcomes across all sites.
• Supervises on-site program directors/supervisors. Provides overall program direction, ensuring compliance with various state licensure and national accreditation standards.
• Ensures continuous readiness for accreditation surveys, audits, and regulatory inspections conducted by organizations, including NCCHC, ACA, The Joint Commission, state licensing authorities, and other governing bodies. Leads corrective action planning, performance improvement initiatives, mock audits, and compliance monitoring activities to support sustained accreditation and regulatory compliance across all assigned facilities.

• Collaborates with Operations and the CQI teams in the monitoring of the Behavioral Health Quality Improvement and Risk Management Programs to ensure improved patient outcomes.
• Utilizes data analytics, benchmarking, trend analysis, and predictive indicators to identify clinical, operational, workforce, and compliance risks. Develops actionable recommendations and collaborates with organizational leadership to implement targeted interventions that improve patient outcomes, operational performance, staff effectiveness, and contract success.
• Communicate the circumstances of high-risk or potentially high-risk events to the CBHO and other key stakeholders.
• Communicate the circumstances and events that impact the effective implementation and successful operations of site-based Behavioral Health programs to the CBHO and other key stakeholders.
• Ensure the timely submission of month-end financial and operational reviews, and contribute to the development of, and participate in, corporate-wide strategic planning efforts.
• Achieve behavioral health outcome goals as defined by the CBHO.
• Participates in the development of staffing recommendations, new business proposals, bidder conferences, oral presentations, and contract negotiations as needed by the CBHO or Armor Leadership.
• As delegated by the Chief Behavioral Health Officer, provides administrative oversight and consultation regarding recruitment, onboarding, credentialing, performance management, workforce planning, employee development, succession planning, corrective action processes, conflict resolution, and staff engagement initiatives for behavioral health personnel throughout the region.
• Monitors behavioral health staffing, productivity measures, contract deliverables, and financial performance indicators to support operational efficiency, contract compliance, workforce optimization, and sustainable program growth.
• Establishes a mechanism by which site-based behavioral health staff can engage in peer review of work products and other work activities to promote collaboration and build a team-oriented culture at each worksite.
• Encourage, facilitate, and lead behavioral health training for health care staff, including medical and behavioral health staff and providers, during grand rounds.
• Acts as a clinical liaison between psychiatric providers and medical providers with behavioral health care staff, as well as clinical professional supervision of behavioral health staff to ensure compliance with Armor Policy and Procedures, as well as professional standards
• Quality Improvement Program implementation as needed; this duty may include monthly meetings on relevant topics and quarterly documentation audits.
• Works with the Armor operational team to ensure psychiatric coverage is maintained at the contracted level for all sites.
• Participate in and support the offender health care program/contract leadership team as coordinated by the CBHO.
• Respond to requests from Security Staff as well as Armor Staff in accordance with Armor Facility Guidelines. This includes following the rules and regulations for employee conduct/behavior, and the chain of command, set forth by the command staff at all times while working within the detention correctional facility.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, including participating in marketing events to inform and secure new clients and taking part in existing client special events as needed.
Qualifications
- Possession of a Doctorate in Psychology
- Licensure as a Clinical Psychologist
- Five years related correctional work or internship experience with adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses or with individuals with similar human-services needs
- 3 years administrative and clinical management experience
- Current CPR certification
- Ability to pass pre-employment Level 2 clearance to include background check and drug screen
