What You’ll Do
You will serve as a key strategic leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of tax compliance, reporting, planning, and tax strategy for the firm and its clients. In this role, you will apply deep technical expertise in tax law while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and full compliance with all regulatory requirements.
You will provide hands-on leadership in a small CPA firm environment, actively participating in client engagements and collaborating closely with firm leadership. You will guide and mentor staff, improve tax processes, and deliver thoughtful, personalized tax solutions. Your ability to balance strategic oversight with direct client service will be essential as you help drive high-quality outcomes and strengthen long-term client relationships.
Supervise, mentor, and lead the tax department team, including senior and staff accountants
Mentor, and manage the tax department, including performance management, delegation, training, and staff development
Foster a collaborative, high-performing environment that emphasizes accountability, quality, and continuous improvement
Oversee the accurate and timely preparation and review of federal, state, local, and, where applicable, international tax returns
Ensure compliance across entity types including C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, and individuals
Monitor filing deadlines, review returns and workpapers, and maintain strong quality control standards
Develop and implement tax planning strategies for business owners and high-net-worth individuals, including entity structuring, transactions, and projections
Serve as a subject matter expert on complex tax matters and oversee technical tax research and documentation
Track changes in tax legislation and communicate implications to clients and internal teams
Manage federal and state tax audits, acting as the primary liaison with taxing authorities and guiding clients through resolution and appeals
Oversee income tax provisions under ASC 740, including deferred taxes, uncertain tax positions, and audit coordination
Identify and implement process improvements and leverage tax technology to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and data management
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
Active CPA license required
Master’s degree in Taxation (MST or MTax) strongly preferred
Embraces AI and emerging technologies to enhance efficiency, innovation, and client service.
Ongoing commitment to continuing professional education and maintenance of active licensure required
Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive tax accounting experience
At least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role preferred
Experience in a public accounting firm or large corporate tax department strongly desired
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously
Proven experience working directly with business owners, executives, or senior leadership
Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and reporting requirements
Strong proficiency with tax preparation software, such as CCH, Thomson Reuters, or GoSystem
Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills preferred
Experience with tax research platforms, workflow management systems, and financial statement review highly desirable

Base salary of $125,000-$155,000 plus discretionary bonus (exact base salary amount will be dependent on experience)
