About this role

About the Role

You'll serve as Commercial and Product Counsel at Arceus, working directly with customers as an extension of their in-house legal team while helping us scale contract review and legal operations. This high-responsibility role sits at the intersection of law and technology, where you'll turn judgment and playbooks into innovative products that reshape how legal services are delivered. You'll own meaningful equity and help define the future of legal technology over the next decade.

What You'll Do

  • Review and negotiate commercial contracts, advising on product and privacy matters for growing tech companies.
  • Partner closely with legal and product teams to move contracts through efficiently and accurately.
  • Interpret contract terms and surface key obligations, risks, and anomalies to clients.
  • Operate internal tooling to streamline review and collaborate with product and engineering to improve platform speed and accuracy.
  • Spot inefficiencies and patterns in the review process, then design and implement fixes.
  • Standardize and codify recurring contract types, review playbooks, and quality standards.
  • Protect turnaround and SLA commitments while maintaining our quality bar.
  • Partner with operations to evolve how we deliver legal services as we scale.

What We're Looking For

  • J.D. and active California bar membership in good standing.
  • 5–8 years of law practice with significant experience supporting technology companies; in-house counsel or sole legal counsel experience required.
  • Expertise in corporate, commercial, product, and privacy law; venture capital and emerging company exposure a plus.
  • Impeccable attention to detail and ability to spot risks others miss.
  • Thrives in high-intensity, fast-paced environments and operates with consistent urgency.
  • Experience with or genuine enthusiasm for AI-assisted legal workflows.
  • Strong grounding in professional responsibility and legal ethics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable in ambiguous, high-ownership environments.
