About this role
Job DetailsPosition Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $150,000.00 - $240,000.00 Base+Commission/monthJob Category: Veterinary ServicesWhy Apex?
Most hospitals say they care about culture. We designed ours.
Apex Vets is an independently owned emergency & specialty hospital built on what we call the Apex Climb—a team-first approach where no one climbs alone. We operate like a rope team: we support each other, communicate clearly, and move forward together, especially when things get hard.
We believe great medicine comes from people who feel supported, challenged, and proud of the work they do.
What Makes This Role Different
You're not here to simply work ER shifts.
You're here to help develop the next generation of emergency doctors.
This role is designed for an experienced emergency veterinarian who enjoys teaching, mentoring, and helping others build confidence in emergency medicine.
You'll continue to manage your own caseload while serving as a clinical resource for less experienced ER doctors—providing guidance, sharing knowledge, and helping elevate the entire team.
At Apex, mentorship isn't an extra responsibility. It's part of how we grow.
What You'll Do
You'll provide high-quality emergency care while supporting the development of fellow doctors:
Manage a full ER caseload including triage, diagnostics, treatment planning, and case management
Perform emergency procedures including centeses, CPR, wound repair, and stabilization
Interpret diagnostics including laboratory work, radiographs, and point-of-care ultrasound
Provide real-time guidance and support to ER doctors on shift
Assist with clinical decision-making and case management discussions
Help develop newer emergency doctors through coaching and mentorship
Communicate effectively with clients, specialists, and referring veterinarians
Maintain accurate and timely medical records
This is a clinical role first—with the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the development of your colleagues.
Who Thrives Here (The Apex Climb Mentality)

Stay calm under pressure
Value teamwork as much as clinical excellence

View medicine as an individual effort rather than a team sport
What You'll Gain
Competitive base salary plus production
Ownership opportunities for qualified candidates
No non-compete agreements
Strong technical and nursing support
Access to specialists for collaboration
Modern equipment and advanced diagnostics
Comprehensive benefits package
Continuing education support
401(k) with employer contributions
Opportunity to influence the growth and development of the ER team
We believe experienced doctors should have the opportunity to shape the future of the profession—not just practice within it.
The Reality of the Role
Mentorship requires more than clinical expertise.
You'll be asked to support difficult cases, provide constructive feedback, answer questions, and help others grow in confidence and capability.
The right candidate sees that as one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
You'll help build a stronger team while continuing to practice high-quality emergency medicine.
QualificationsRequirements
DVM or VMD from an accredited institution
Licensed or eligible for licensure in Maryland
