About this role

AOM Infusion is a national home infusion therapy pharmacy with licenses in all 50 states, expanding into ambulatory infusion centers (AICs) across a growing multi-state network. Our AICs are staffed by experienced nurse practitioners delivering specialty infusion therapies under physician governance. We are seeking Local Medical Directors in key markets to provide state-level clinical oversight and regulatory accountability for our NP-led sites.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Local Medical Director (LMD) is a fractional, contracted physician engagement responsible for the clinical oversight and regulatory compliance of AOM's AIC(s) within a defined state or geographic area. The LMD reports to AOM's National Medical Director, who sets clinical governance standards, owns policy and protocol development, and serves as the primary escalation point for quality and strategic matters. Day-to-day LMD engagement is purposefully scoped — focused on the defined regulatory, compliance, and chart review obligations specific to their state.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the identified medical director for AOM's AIC(s) in the applicable state, satisfying state regulatory and licensure requirements
  • Enter into and maintain joint protocols or collaborative practice agreements with AIC nurse practitioners per state law
  • Provide periodic on-site presence, and electronic availability, as required by applicable state law
  • Conduct chart reviews for NPs at the frequency and volume required by state; document all oversight activities via monthly timesheet
  • Review and approve clinical policies, procedures, and emergency protocols applicable to the AIC on an annual basis or as directed by the National Medical Director
  • Ensure each AIC patient has a documented, independent treatment relationship with a rendering provider
  • Participate in structured reviews of high-risk occurrences and adverse events as directed by the National Medical Director
  • Participate in credential review and staff orientation activities as directed
  • Report regularly to the National Medical Director on site-level quality, patient safety, and state regulatory matters
  • Ensure infusion drugs are prepared per manufacturer labeling for immediate patient administration; escalate and proposed deviations from labeled preparation to the National Medical Director for compliance review before implementation
  • Document all activities via monthly timesheets

LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Active, unrestricted MD or DO license in the applicable state(s); in good standing with no current board actions or restrictions
  • Board certified in Internal Medicine or a specialty relevant to our patient population, including Neurology, Rheumatology, Hematology/Oncology, Immunology, or a related field
  • Active DEA registration in applicable state(s); eligible to serve as collaborating/supervising physician for NPs under state law

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MD or DO; minimum 3 years post-residency clinical experience
  • Experience supervising or collaborating with NPs/APRNs in a clinical or ambulatory setting
  • Familiarity with joint protocol or collaborative practice agreement requirements in the applicable state
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote, distributed model; able to maintain accurate timesheets and compliance documentation

ENGAGEMENT & PROTECTIONS:

  • Non-exclusive; physician may continue active clinical practice and other professional commitments
  • Professional liability (malpractice) and D&O insurance provided by the PC at no cost to the physician
  • AOM indemnifies physician for claims arising from AOM's own gross negligence or willful misconduct
  • Selection based exclusively on clinical qualifications and regulatory eligibility; referral relationships and patient volume play no role
