About the Role |
This position is employed by Anuvia Prevention & Recovery Center and provided on-site at Black Mountain Home for Children, Youth & Families through a clinical partnership between the two organizations. Anuvia is seeking a dedicated Licensed Counselor to provide individual, group, and family counseling for youth in residential care at the Home, addressing trauma, behavioral, and (where present) co-occurring substance use needs. You will be a core member of an interdisciplinary team committed to person-centered, recovery-oriented care.
Black Mountain's 200+ acre campus supports garden and farm, equine, and ropes-course programming that can be woven into the Home's group therapy offerings alongside more traditional clinical groups. This is a full-time role offering meaningful, hands-on clinical work as part of a committed on-site team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities |
Clinical Services
- Provide individual counseling tailored to each child's age, history, and presenting need — e.g., trauma and attachment work (Trauma-Focused CBT, attachment-based approaches) at entry; emotional and behavioral regulation (CBT-based skills coaching, play therapy for younger children); identity, family, and peer issues (motivational interviewing, family-systems-informed work); and independent-living/discharge readiness for older youth (solution-focused therapy)
- Lead or clinically co-facilitate age-appropriate therapeutic groups, including nature-based and experiential programming supported by the Home's campus — for example, equine-assisted, garden/farm-based, and low-ropes/team-challenge activities — alongside DBT skills, anger management, life-skills/discharge-planning, and art or music therapy for adolescents; art, music, movement, play-based social-skills, and animal-care groups for younger children — documenting each session's clinical goals, interventions, and client response
- Provide family counseling, including family reunification and reintegration preparation, and facilitate family involvement in treatment
- Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, including psychosocial assessments; for clients with identified substance use needs, conduct ASAM multidimensional assessments and develop ASAM Level of Care recommendations as appropriate to licensure
- For clients with identified substance use needs, monitor signs and symptoms of intoxication and withdrawal and coordinate appropriate interventions
- Provide crisis intervention, post-incident processing, and safety planning, coordinating with the treatment team following any crisis or hospitalization
Treatment Planning & Care Coordination
- Develop, implement, and update individualized, person-centered treatment and service plans prior to or on the date of service
- Monitor client progress through ongoing assessment and reassessment; revise treatment plans as clinically indicated
- Manage full client caseload from admission through discharge, including transitions, family reunification, and aftercare/discharge planning
- Participate in weekly treatment team meetings and case coordination with the Home's residential staff, school, DSS, and court contacts as needed
- Coordinate linkage to medically necessary services including MAT, psychiatric medication management, psychological, medical, and community-based resources
- Submit service authorizations and ensure continuity of care across providers and systems
- Provide referrals and coordination for SUD treatment and recovery resources
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the EHR per state, agency, and federal requirements
- Complete required reporting, including incident reports per established guidelines, and NC TOPPS/GPRA reporting for clients receiving substance use treatment services
- Participate in QA/QI activities including peer review and timely resolution of out-of-compliance items
Team & Professional Development
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case staffing, clinical supervision, and coordination with the Clinical Director, medical providers, and Black Mountain Home staff
- Facilitate training and supervision for interns and/or trainees as assigned
- Administer medications and conduct UDS screenings within scope of training and licensure
- Adhere to professional standards, ethical guidelines, governing board requirements, and all applicable policies
