About the Role
The Environmental Specialist plays a critical role in developing, implementing, and administering environmental compliance programs for AngloGold Ashanti's Nevada operations. As North Bullfrog transitions into operations, this position will serve as a key environmental leader responsible for establishing monitoring systems, managing regulatory reporting obligations, supporting permitting requirements, and ensuring ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
This role requires a highly capable environmental professional who can operate independently with limited oversight, provide technical guidance to operations teams, and support regulatory interactions. The successful candidate will help maintain the company's license to operate through proactive compliance management, risk mitigation, and environmental stewardship.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Compliance Management
- Lead implementation and administration of environmental compliance programs across Nevada operations.
- Ensure compliance with all permit conditions, regulatory requirements, and environmental commitments.
- Develop and maintain systems to track environmental obligations, monitoring requirements, reporting deadlines, and corrective actions.
- Prepare, review, and submit regulatory reports, monitoring summaries, permit applications, modifications, and agency correspondence.
- Interpret permit requirements and provide practical compliance guidance to operational teams.
Permitting & Regulatory Programs
- Manage compliance activities associated with permits including:
- Air Quality Operating Permits
- Water Pollution Control Permits
- Stormwater Permits
- Reclamation Permits
- Hazardous Waste Generator Requirements
- Other applicable state and federal environmental permits
- Coordinate permit amendments and support future permitting initiatives as operational needs evolve.
- Serve as a key point of contact during regulatory inspections and agency audits.
Environmental Monitoring & Reporting
- Develop, implement, and oversee environmental monitoring programs for air quality, water quality, stormwater, hazardous waste, reclamation, and other permit-driven requirements.
- Coordinate environmental sampling activities and ensure data quality standards are maintained.
- Review, validate, and analyze environmental monitoring data.
- Maintain accurate environmental records and defensible documentation systems.
- Ensure timely completion and submission of all required regulatory reports.
Leadership & Environmental Performance
- Provide leadership and technical direction for environmental technicians, consultants, and contractors as assigned.
- Support environmental incident investigations and corrective action implementation.
- Advise operations, maintenance, construction, and project teams on environmental risks and compliance obligations.
- Identify emerging compliance risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Promote environmental awareness and compliance culture across the operation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Operations, Safety, Maintenance, Engineering, Construction, Community Relations, and Project teams.
- Support engagement with regulatory agencies, Tribal representatives, community stakeholders, and consultants.
- Facilitate effective communication between environmental, operational, and leadership teams.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
Highly Preferred
- Direct environmental compliance experience supporting mining operations in Nevada.
- Demonstrated expertise in environmental monitoring, compliance, and reporting for:
- Air Quality Programs
- Water Pollution Control Programs
- Hazardous Waste Management
- Stormwater Compliance
- Reclamation Compliance
- Experience managing compliance obligations associated with Nevada mining permits.
Additional Preferred Experience
- Environmental compliance experience supporting mining operations in the Western United States.
- Experience leading small environmental teams, environmental technicians, or consultants.
- Experience managing environmental inspections, regulatory audits, and agency interactions.
- Experience developing environmental compliance tracking systems and reporting tools.
- Experience advising operations teams on corrective actions, environmental incidents, and compliance risks.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, Biology, Geology, or related field.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- 2–5 years of experience in environmental compliance, preferably in mining, industrial, or natural resource operations.
- Familiarity with Nevada environmental regulations and permitting preferred.
- Experience supporting environmental monitoring programs and regulatory reporting.
- Ability to work in field conditions at an active mining site.
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders and cross‑functional teams.
- Environmental permitting and compliance.
- Field inspection and environmental monitoring practices.
- Data management, validation, and regulatory reporting.
- Knowledge of Nevada regulatory frameworks and permitting processes.
- Incident documentation and corrective action tracking.
- Proficiency with environmental databases and reporting tools.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Collaborative mindset with cross‑functional teams.
- High level of accountability and professional integrity.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding company information and operations.
