POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr. Manager of Claims provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and hands-on management for AMSURG’s comprehensive claims portfolio. This role manages the end-to-end claims lifecycle within the Risk Management department, directly impacting the organization’s financial and operational resilience. The ideal candidate is analytical, driven, and someone who can manage a diverse portfolio consisting of Workers’ Compensation (40%), Property (30%), General Liability (20%), and Professional Liability (10%). They will own the process from initial incident evaluation and carrier notification through to final resolution and litigation management, collaborating closely with executive leadership, internal teams, and external partners.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Claim Ownership & Strategy: Owns the evaluation and investigation of all reported incidents, allegations or claims in the AMSURG system; independently assesses liability, determines compensability, verifies coverages, and manager carrier notifications.
- Litigation & Partner Management: Partners directly with external insurance adjusters and defense counsel to drive aggressive defense strategies, optimize claim outcomes, and execute releases or payments within designated authority.
- Operational Excellence: Lifts the strategic vision for the claims function, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, high performance, and compliance.
- Cross-Functional Advisory: Serves as a subject matter expert for Corporate and Center staff on claims-related issues, including optimizing Return-to-Work programs and managing subpoenas and medical record requests.
- Data & Financial Intelligence: Analyzes complex claims data and third-party loss runs to identify risk trends; translates data into actionable strategic insights and prepares ad-hoc reporting for leadership.
- Collaboration: Collaborates seamlessly with Finance, Legal, IT, Real Estate, and Operations to integrate risk management best practices across the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
- Basic knowledge of claims processes is required to handle matters (both litigated and non-litigated).
- Understanding of reserve setting, claim finances, and loss run data analytics.
- Strong knowledge of state or federal regulations and/or statutes regarding insured claims preferred.
Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of eight (8) years’ experience as a claims handler required. Professional Liability, Workers Compensation, and Property experience highly preferred.

Paid Time Off:
AMSURG offers paid time off, 9 observed holidays, and paid family leave. You accrue Paid Time Off (PTO) each pay period and depending on your position and can earn a minimum of 20 days and up to 25 days per calendar year.
