ABOUT THE ROLE

Amsted Automotive, Cold Form & Finishing, business unit is seeking an experienced Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Programmer to develop, create and maintain inspection programs. This role interprets blueprints and GD&T requirements, performs dimensional inspections, analyzes measurement data, and collaborates with production and quality teams to resolve issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • The CMM Programmer’s responsibility is to ensure the machine is properly working through programming scripts and tests.
  • Oversight of testing and calibration of the machine.
  • Determine program requirements based on design and engineering requirements.
  • Ensure that precision machinery is in working condition and properly calibrated.
  • Operate precision machinery as needed.
  • Write or edit programs for precision machinery.
  • Schedule software upgrades and calibration requirements.
  • CMM lab cleanliness and organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • A working knowledge of statistics and data analysis is useful in this position, as this job requires the programmer to analyze testing data to ensure the machine functions properly.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and reading drawing specifications.
  • Able to program dimensional layout with a physical part or CAD data interface.
  • Manages time appropriately.
  • Able to maintain and update Lab Scope for Meteorology Lab.
  • Responsible for dimensional control and product release and or buyout/first piece inspection in the plant
  • Able to do special studies such as capability studies and our MSA requests on an occasion.
  • Share responsibilities of plant gage calibration and calibration labeling with 1st or 2nd shift CMM programmer or CMM operators utilizing Gage Track.
  • Require strong programing knowledge related to Open DMIS & PC DMIS able to set up and run CMM program software knowledge and able to program and set up complete product programs to verify customer print requirements.
  • Able to take directions and perform all other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • A two-year technical degree is preferred or equivalent relevant certifications.
  • At least 5 years of on-the-job work experience in programming and operating a Zeiss CMM.  
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and reading drawing specifications.
  • Good understanding of problem-solving tools. (8d, 5y, fishbone, RedX). A working knowledge of statistics and data analysis is useful in this position, as this job requires the programmer to analyze testing data to ensure the machine functions properly.
  • CMM programmers must know how to use these programs, Open DMIS & PC DMIS.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Mini Tab.
  • Must work well in a team environment.
  • Communicate effectively with peers.
  • Be able to follow management directions work independently with minimum supervision from management.

WHAT ELSE YOU’LL NEED TO KNOW

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to frequently bend, reach, stoop, and use hand tools.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, oil, and metal chips.
  • Must be able to work necessary overtime if required.
