THE POSITION
Adventure Medics is hiring a full time Shop Assistant at Broken Top Shop, our own shop at Lava Rock Ranch in Bend. Working with the Fleet Manager and Lead Mechanic, you will keep a large mixed fleet of ambulances, pickups, vans, trailers, and off-road equipment inspected, stocked, and deployment ready, and take on hands on service work from day one.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Run readiness checks on vehicles, trailers, and equipment and document them in Fleetio the same day.
- Handle routine upkeep: cleaning, restocking, fluids, tires, batteries, lighting, and wipers.
- Perform service and preventive maintenance under the Lead Mechanic, including lift work, hot work, and work under a raised vehicle once signed off.
- Keep tools, parts, consumables, storage locations, and vehicle records accurate in Fleetio.
- Run parts, shuttle units between shop, vendors, and stations, and support event logistics.
- Pull units from service and notify the Lead Mechanic if a defect makes it unsafe to operate.
SECONDARY DUTY: TRANSPORT SUPPORT
Secondary to the shop role and assigned through the Fleet Manager: serve as a non-EMT driver for Discharge transports, cover for other divisions as needed, and cross train to drive for IFT non medical wheelchair and stretcher transports. No patient care beyond safe loading, securing, and unloading. CPR certification is provided within your first 60 days, and all driver, safety, and HIPAA training is completed before you are scheduled.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Prior hands on mechanical experience in an automotive, light truck, fleet, or heavy equipment shop.
- Valid driver license with a clean, insurable record; willing to obtain a motorcycle endorsement.
- Comfortable driving trucks, trailers, vans, motorcycles, ATV, UTV, SXS, and light farm equipment.
- Organized, detail oriented, safety minded, and able to follow through without direct supervision.
- Comfortable with fleet maintenance software; manages a 40 hour week without unnecessary overtime.
- Able to lift 50 pounds or more and work around, under, and outside vehicles, with or without accommodation.
- Owns a basic set of hand tools; willing to serve as a non-EMT transport driver as a secondary duty.
NICE TO HAVE
Two or more years of shop, automotive, or fleet maintenance experience; Fleetio or similar; ambulance configuration such as stretcher mounts, on board oxygen, emergency lighting, and radios; DOT and trailer compliance; welding or fabrication; first aid or EMS background; military vehicle maintenance, motor pool, or logistics experience. None of these are required.
