OUR MISSION: We are a customer-centric partner providing innovative solutions. The safety, well-being, and career growth of our team members are the benchmarks of our success.
POSITION TITLE: Senior GIS Specialist
REPORTS TO: Director, Engineering
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
POSITION OVERVIEW:
ADB is a Nationwide full turnkey provider of technology infrastructure solutions including Wireline, Wireless, Technology, Critical Infrastructure, and Engineering. Our customer centric approach has ensured long-term relationships with commercial clients, service providers, local, state, and federal government organizations. We recognize our team members as our greatest asset, ensuring that their safety, well-being, and career growth are always our number one priority. Our ALL IN culture includes a focus on Safety, Wellness, Learning, Diversity and Inclusion, and giving back to our communities.
ADB Companies is hiring a GIS Specialist to sit inside the Engineering organization and support fiber and OSP infrastructure delivery across a growing portfolio of carrier, utility, and municipal client programs. The person in this seat will directly support designers, permitting technicians, and business development, while helping establish repeatable GIS standards, integrations, and data workflows that drive efficiency across ADB’s project mix.
This is a hands-on role. This role will spend the majority of the time producing, validating, and improving geospatial data that engineering and permitting teams depend on daily. This role will also work alongside ADB’s data science team and IT organization on shared infrastructure buildout, allowing focused capacity on engineering-specific priorities and deliver efficiency where it matters most to project execution.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build, maintain, and quality-control GIS data layers supporting OSP fiber design projects, including route alignments, existing utilities, easements, right-of-way, parcels, permitting boundaries, and as-built information
- Develop and perform GIS QA/QC checks for geometry, attribution, topology, coordinate systems, completeness, and client-specific requirements before data is released to engineering teams or delivered externally
- Interpret construction plans, as-builts, recorded maps, deeds, legal descriptions, and imagery, and translate them into accurate GIS layers using COGO, digitizing, and standard geoprocessing workflows
- Support permitting workflows by producing exhibits, application maps, and jurisdictional overlays used in submissions to municipalities, DOTs, railroads, and utility joint-use partners
- Produce route mockups, feasibility exhibits, and market maps that support business development pursuits and proposals
- Acquire, integrate, and curate third-party geospatial datasets, including utility, parcel, address, imagery, and jurisdictional sources, maintaining schema, data dictionary, and attribute consistency across engineering, permitting, and BD workflows
- Support the setup and ongoing maintenance of enterprise GIS services, including map services, feature services, and hosted layers, that make ADB geospatial data accessible to internal teams and clients through web maps and other endpoints
- Support the buildout and maintenance of API-based integrations between ADB GIS environments and client systems, so spatial data flows cleanly without manual handoffs
- Support interoperability between GIS and adjacent design and construction platforms including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Render Networks, ensuring engineering deliverables move cleanly across tools
- Maintain client-specific data conventions, layer standards, schemas, and file structures across multiple concurrent programs, ensuring deliverables meet each client’s specifications
- Develop and document repeatable GIS standards, templates, data dictionaries, and workflows for the engineering team. Contribute to a growing standards library so that GIS practices are consistent, defensible, and efficient across projects and PMs
- Identify opportunities to automate recurring tasks and drive delivery efficiency, including data cleanup, exhibit generation, integration, and reporting
- Coordinate with designers, project managers, permitting technicians, and subcontractors to align GIS outputs with project needs and schedule
SUCCESS FACTORS:
- A strong belief in ZERO — Being safe 100% of the time is the expectation
- Alignment with company mission, vision, and values
- A high level of customer centricity
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced work environment
- A high level of time management, accountability, and prioritization skills
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and driven to accomplish department goals
- Ability to be organized, problem solve, and be solution oriented
- Strong ability to influence desired outcomes by master relationship building
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail; this role will be trusted with data that feeds design, permitting, and client-facing decisions
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects across different clients without losing context.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc.)
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This role operates out of a temperature-controlled office environment
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptops, copiers, and cell phones
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
- GIS deliverables to designers, permitting, and BD are consistent, accurate, and produced on schedule without rework
- A documented set of ADB GIS standards, templates, schemas, and data dictionaries exists and is being used across projects and PMs
- Third-party spatial datasets are integrated, curated, and accessible without ad hoc scrambling by designers or BD
- Designers and permitting technicians spend measurably less time sourcing, cleaning, converting, and troubleshooting geospatial data because GIS support is centralized and repeatable
- Recurring manual tasks that consume designer or permitting hours are automated or streamlined, delivering measurable efficiency gains
- Client-specific data conventions are respected across concurrent programs, with zero client escalations tied to GIS data quality
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Equivalent industry experience will be considered
- At least 3 to 6 years of hands-on GIS experience, with at least 2 years in telecommunications, utilities, or OSP infrastructure
- Proficiency with the Esri platform, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. Working familiarity with ArcGIS Enterprise or comparable server platforms for publishing and maintaining map and feature services
- Experience working with CAD-based engineering data, including AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D, and demonstrated ability to move spatial data between CAD and GIS environments
- Working knowledge of Google Earth Pro and QGIS or comparable open-source geospatial tools
- Working knowledge of coordinate systems, georeferencing, projections, and spatial data management
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, as-builts, recorded plats, and legal descriptions
- Experience producing map exhibits used in permit applications, joint-use submissions, or client deliverables
- Experience moving spatial data between adjacent tools, whether through file-based exchange or API-based integration, including CAD platforms, construction management tools, and client enterprise systems
- Direct experience supporting telecommunications engineering projects
- Experience designing, publishing, and managing enterprise map and feature services in ArcGIS Enterprise or a comparable environment
- Scripting experience using Python, ArcGIS Notebooks, ModelBuilder, or Esri APIs to automate recurring tasks and integrations
- Experience with FME, Safe Software, ETL tooling, SQL/spatial databases, or similar geospatial data transformation workflows
- Prior experience in a professional services or engineering consulting environment where GIS supported billable project delivery
