Summary of role: Support our production teams by preparing incoming parts for future processing. The Laser Production Assistant works with components used in the manufacturing of cutting edge CO2 gas lasers as an integral part of the production process.

Location: In Person

Primary Duties:

  • Work as part of a small, dedicated team to prepare and assemble parts used in electromechanical laser systems.
  • Process incoming aluminum, stainless steel and ceramic parts. Common tasks include the following:
    • Inspection and Deburring mechanical parts
    • Washing parts using an ultrasonic wash system
    • Preparing aluminum parts for welding
    • Leak checking and vacuum baking
  • Follow work instructions and assembly drawings to build mechanical sub-assemblies in cleanroom environments.
  • Transfer and UV clean parts and materials between inventory and production clean rooms.
  • Regularly report updates and any issues to the production lead to ensure smooth operations and clear communication.
  • Use the ERP system to track jobs and production time.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and product improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve tooling, setup, and equipment related to various processes. 
  • Assist other departments or teams when needed, demonstrating a collaborative and team-oriented mindset to help achieve the overall success of the company.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that all components meet the highest performance and quality standards.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required. 

Standard Job Requirements:

  • Excellent attention to detail and follow through.
  • Capable of following written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as with another material handler and in a team atmosphere. 
  • Being flexible and adaptable to an ever-changing environment is a critical skill. 
  • An innate curiosity coupled with a desire to learn.
  • Dependable, resourceful and maintains a clean and organized work environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Basic Computer skills including MS Word, Excel, E-mail.
  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs on a routine basis with the ability to occasionally lift up to 50lbs, up to 5ft above ground.

Highly Desirable Additional Skills/Experience:

  • Previous mechanical assembly experience.
  • Past experience working in a cleanroom.
  • A general understanding of root cause analysis and troubleshooting process.
