Staff Accountant - (Benefits and Payroll)

As we continue to grow, we're looking for a Corporate Staff Accountant who is excited to make an impact in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

In this role, you'll be a key member of our Finance & Accounting team, leading company-wide payroll and benefits administration while supporting month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and process improvements.

What You'll Do

Payroll & Benefits

• Own the full-cycle payroll process for corporate and multi-location cafe employees.
• Review and validate employee timecards, resolve payroll discrepancies, and ensure accurate payroll processing.
• Administer employee benefits, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), FSA/HSA, and leave-related deductions.
• Coordinate open enrollment, qualifying life events, and benefits changes.
• Ensure compliance with California payroll laws, payroll tax requirements, and employee recordkeeping.
• Support payroll tax filings and maintain accurate payroll records.

 

Accounting & Financial Operations

• Prepare journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
• Reconcile bank accounts, payroll liabilities, and corporate credit cards.
• Support financial reporting, variance analysis, and audit preparation.
• Maintain accurate records across multiple legal entities using Sage Intacct.
• Help identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and strengthen internal controls.

 

What We're Looking For - Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of accounting and payroll experience, preferably supporting multiple locations.
• Experience processing California payroll and understanding California wage and hour requirements.
• Knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles.
• Experience with accounting and payroll systems such as Sage Intacct, Paylocity, or similar ERP/payroll platforms a Huge Plus!!
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, etc.).
• Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience in the restaurant, retail, hospitality, or food & beverage industry.
• Experience administering employee benefits and supporting multi-entity accounting environments.
