About this role

Who We Are:

The 4M story is likely one you haven’t heard before: We are on a mission to unlock access to the world below us, to do for the world below ground what Google Maps did for the world above. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, we are mapping the subsurface infrastructure to make reliable, real-time utility data accessible to the construction industry - completely transforming a traditional industry.

We’re a growing startup with 120 employees currently based in Tel Aviv, Israel, and Austin, Texas.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a backend Software Engineer to join our GeoTech team as a key contributor. In this role, you'll help process and structure all data coming into our product, execute data pipelines, and maintain data quality. Your role will be pivotal in creating a unified, up-to-date, and accurate utilities map, services, and applications for accelerating our mapping operations. Your contributions will directly impact our core product's success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of software solutions, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members, fostering a collaborative and supportive team culture.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers and QA engineers, to deliver high-quality software products.
  • Design and implement CI/CD processes for data processing, releasing, testing and monitoring, ensuring robustness and consistency.
  • Create and manage data infrastructure components, including ETL workflows, databases, supporting seamless data flow and accessibility.
  • Develop and optimize complex Python-based applications and services to allow more efficient data processing capabilities, enhancing quality and accuracy of our data.
  • Conduct technical reviews of third-party tools, frameworks and technologies.
  • Identify technical debt and areas for improvement, implementing solutions to enhance code quality and maintainability.
  • implement technologies, industry trends and software development methodologies.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years as a software engineer with solid Python skills
  • Proven experience with AI development tools - we use Claude Code as a daily tool on our team
  • Familiarity with Airflow (or comparable orchestration)
  • Experience with PostgreSQL/SQL, AWS services, K8S, Docker, debugging
  • Fluent written and verbal English

AI-First Mindset

We are building an AI-first engineering culture, and we're looking for engineers who are genuinely excited about working this way.

You don't need to arrive with a fully formed AI workflow — but you should have the curiosity and the drive to develop one.

This means you are experimenting with AI tools (code assistants, LLMs) and see AI as a multiplier of your craft.

Preferred Qualifications (not required!)

  • An affinity for maps, with bonus points for direct GIS experience
  • Civil engineering related experience
  • Experience working with message queues, ArgoCD, Helm, or KEDA in Kubernetes environments
